Would it change your opinion of this year's team? - Scoob
my opinion? no. because they are what they are. mediocre. it was just make it easier to tolerate.
the team would also be different anyway, had they won in 2010. maybe better? maybe worse. who knows. but i'd have those memories and never let go of them. |

I agree with all of this.
especially this...
I know every team does it.. and it's certainly alright to honor your past players and the history of your team. But there is such a thing as living in the past wayyyy too much. I would love for a more recent benchmark to be made, and that would at least hold the fanbase over. This is a whole new era, with new, and younger guys playing on this team. I want THEM to make THEIR legacy in history. I'm all for honoring the past in prudence, but the Flyers legacy seems to hinge solely upon it. I want to see it morph into present day times with the talent this team has. - WarriorHockey21
totally. as a kid who became a fan just after the glory of the bullies, i want my "own" team to have a cup. the 80s had that chance. the 90s had that chance. the 2000s had that chance. the 2010s had that chance. they've missed them all. it sucks my ass.

Bill,
Do you have any info on some of the college FA that are still available? Any word if Flyers are trying to entice any more then others at this point?

Absolutely. But it takes a lot of good luck as well as a lot of good design to get it. That's why a Cup winning season should be treasured -- or even a trip to the Finals -- because you never know when it might be a long time until it comes again, even if the team seems poised (on paper) to contend for years to come.
Along the way over the years, the Caps, Blues and Sharks are among the franchises that had numerous teams that were "good enough" to win the Cup if things broke the right way for them in the playoffs -- good health, a few favorable matchups, a key game here or there that went the other way. - bmeltzer
2010 was pretty magical. |

I think that's Bill's major point.
Sure, seeing the team you root for win a Cup is great, but it is of little to no consequence once the next season begins. |

I want to see another Cup while my mental and physical capacity to enjoy it are still there. 40+ years and a lot of heartbreak with some of those teams, some of them outrightly cheated by the powers that be for the sake of marketing the game or protecting someones image |

Right. But you have the memories of joy to help you get by, as opposed to year after year of crushed hopes. |

Todd McLellan is officially out of San Jose now.
Hextall just might have an even bigger opportunity this summer to turn things around for the Flyers then Holmgren ever did. The Draft is deep. The Coaching UFAs are legitimate big names. With Edmonton getting another first overall pick and not being the most savvy of franchises in recent history, all eyes should be on them to pick their pocket. I personally wouldn't bother offering anything for the first round pick. I would look heavily into one of Ryan Nugent Hopkins or Taylor Hall. I'm more so within the majorty of drafting players and as someone mentioned T-Mac wants to much for players who haven't proven a lot hell of a lot yet. I think a team could for his hand or maybe a player who doesn't want to be there anymore. I wouldn't give up much more then Tampa's first, Scott Laughton and Andrew MacDonald, which to some might be a serious low ball. |

As spoiled as we have been with the 2nd best regular season winning percentage in NHL history, it still sucks not seeing the Flyers win a championship, when they've been so close. That OT goal in game 6 by Patrick Kane still haunts my dreams, especially considering Kane should have been a Flyer but of course the one time the Flyers are the worst team in the league, unintentionally by the way, they get screwed out of the #1 pick. If there were any justice, the Flyers would've won the lottery this year, but I knew there was a snowball's chance in hell that was going to occur and it didn't. |

I want them to win a Cup, but I have always been satisfied with how hard this franchise typically competes, year in and year out.
I do not love the current regime's stated "one step backward to take two forward," because I don't believe any season should be thrown away, but I try my best to understand it, mainly because I can't change it. |

nobody wants to see their team suck, even if they've won 5 straight titles. it's not hard to be objective about them at any time. they are what they are.
it would make a lot of us mind a lot less when they have down years. that's my point. as a fan of this team for 35 years, i want to be able to have the experience of winning at least once. i was 7 when i became a fan. i'm now 42. it's criminal that i've not witnessed a championship. the 2 cups are virtually meaningless to me because i didn't see them. they only serve as a point of pride knowing they've won at some point so they're not a failure like st. louis, buffalo, vancouver and washington. |

I think G, RNH, and Coots / Laughton would be centres to lead this team. RNH is a becoming a very good two way player. |

I agree to some extent, but, I can only speak for myself, if we had won the cup in 2010, I'd still be pretty happy about it. Also, while certainly not a given, I have to wonder in Laviolette is still coaching in Philly if they had won in 2010.
- BiggE
This current team would be quite different had we won in 2010, but I would still be satisfied had we won it all that year. Hell im still running of the fumes of that playoff run |

I would include Laughton in a trade for RNH.
I'm not sure Edmonton would be even a little interested though. They need D, which we aren't in any position to deal away. |

They should have gone back to Boucher after game 5. At least then if we had lost game 6 at home it wouldn't have been with that AHL fraud in net. |
