We are talking offensively skill set right? Goal scoring is included in that. Alexander Ovechkin is a better scorer than Sidney Crosby thus making him more of an offensive threat (his assist numbers equal to comparable total points) so yes Ovy is more gifted offensively while Sid is a more all around player. Same with the Perron and Stepan argument. Stepan is great defensively but he won't score key goals for you.. while Perron is opposite type of game - Kittyblender1

His agrument really sucks, Perron better than Steps is a complete joke. - JohnnyNYR27

Perron: Talent Analysis
"Perron's game is based around his great individual skill, which makes him one of the most dangerous offensive players on the ice. He is especially adept at stickhandling his way past defenders and utilizing his accurate shooting to make opposing goaltenders nervous whenever he is near. His vision within the offensive zone also allows him to set up teammates for scoring opportunities."
Stepan: Talent Analysis
"A pressure player, Stepan can score as well as act as a playmaker. Defensively responsible, the center thinks the game well and loves to play along the boards.
'Stepan has the ability to make plays and score goals. He understands how to do all the little things defensively that are such an important part of winning hockey games.' Ray Clearwater, Rangers' amateur scout." |

Goals and assists are part of it. Ability to drive play, create offense, stickhandle, skate with speed, pass, screen goalies, forecheck, and support the puck are all some other factors on offense as well. Perron gets his numbers, sure. But his overall offensive game is lacking compared to Stepan (and the original post was that Stepan was better than Perron in general, not just offensively). But keep fighting it to the death, you've picked your hill to die on.
Edit: By the way, I'm 100%+ rooting for the Penguins. But that doesn't mean I'm gonna deceive myself when evaluating players. - jmatchett383
You don't have to be a fan of a team to know if a certain player is better than another. |

Ummm hmmm... wait a minute.. let's see... Perron has oh... wait he has 29 Goals and 34 Assists totaling 63 points. Stepan has only scored 20 goals once in his career and has 16 goals and 39 assist for a total of 55 points this year. Perron also outscored Stepan last year in goals with 28 with the EDMONTON OILERS and matched Stepan's point. Perron is still 26. I do not know what you guys are smoking but I really want some! - Kittyblender1
David Perron has 17G 24A, 41pts and is a -24. PLUS he's played 81 games....Stepan has 16G and 39A, 55pts. and is a +26 in 68 games....What are you smoking? |

Why does someone's location have any bearing on their hockey knowledge and/or the team they cheer for?
And what does "null in void" mean? |

If the Penguins are going to steal this series, it all rests on Fleury's shoulders. I think this series is a lot closer than people think, and the Penguins have a shot at winning, but it's going to take a extremely strong performance from the Flower.
I think after the strife of the regular season, the Penguins are a lot more battle tested than the Rangers. This series goes the distance, with the Penguins winning 1-0 in game 7. |

You do realize both have been in the league for about five seasons or so, respectively. When drafted Perron was the better prospect than Stepan.
Draft positions don't equate to better professional careers.

Alexander Daigle is a late bloomer. He's gonna tear this league apart in 2026. |

You're right about one thing, Fleury has to be the MVP of this series in order for the Pens to advance. |

Clearly the best player because of amateur scout breakdown and draft position. |

Did you really just quote hockeysfuture database as your reasoning for thinking Perron is better than Stepan? Stepan is on the cusp of being a point per game player at age 24. David Perron is no where near that and is 26. And why are you looking at scouting reports? How old is that Rangers report, 5 years ago? |

No he's absolutely right. I'm a bandwagoner and have no real knowledge of hockey. It's so bad that I have to copy and paste player analysis from a website because I don't understand the game enough to do it myself. |

He doesn't have to be. Crosby and Malkin are x factors as well. If either one of them get hot, the Pens can win the series with just above average goaltending from Fleury. |

The point of it was to speak about their style of play. Perron plays a more heavy offensive style of play is what I am trying to say. There is no other ranking source to use for right now |

I think Crosby and Malkin will get their points. But the Rangers' depth is pretty superior, and the differences in D is scary. I don't know if he has to the MVP, but he's going to have to outduel Hank by a fair margin. |

Mots (not all) of the non-Penguins fans on here are on here often. Myself, I'm married to a Penguins fan and have always liked them back to the Mario/Jagr days. They're my (far) second team after the Flyers. You know, it IS POSSIBLE for people to like more than one team and to have objectivity over blind faith. |

Yes there is, their career statistics.
Pro production is the bottom line and Perron hasn't gotten it done except that one year in Edmonton.
Stepan has averaged near a point per game in two of the last three seasons. |
