Kind of sad when Lappy and Sutter are your most noticeable players. I've never seen a captain just disappear in a game more than Crosby does. |

This Rags team is so beatable. - nbartley9
Of course they are. A heavy team that dumps and punishes like WSH would probably stand a very good chance against them. Penguins healthy would have a good chance. |

Got to love a sport where the rules change in the middle of a game. I guess the NHL wants those New York TV ratings. |

The game went about as poorly as I expected. Fleury played well. He was the only one that really stood out to me. Overall NYR dominated the play. The team is crippled with the defense. Nobody can move the puck so they are just dead in the water with Johnston's system. - jfkst1
So you expected to get within 1 goal by playing poop? Well live in denial but getting that close after receiving those penalties in the 1st, is not what I call dead in the water. Comeovers penalty leading to the GWG - seriously, how do you call that???
Let's see what happens from here but this invicible machine in NY didn't seem too red hot tonite even though outplaying the lowly Pens. 2-1.
Bring game 2 on & (frank) the Rags!! |

What was the problem? No puck support? Passing on shots? No help from the points on in zone possession? Perimeter shots? The only way I see them winning is if someone is in Lundqvists face all game long. |

Passing up shots is just totally insane, but we continue to do it; I don't understand it and never will. |

Defense is overmatched in our own zone and provide virtually zero offense. MAF was great and deserved better.
Add to that the Refs swallowed their whistles when the Pens finally got going. |

Ignoring the problems in the defensive zone, the Penguins have almost no transition game with the dmen. So there is little support going through the neutral zone and much less chance of entering the offensive zone in numbers. Johnston made a solid adjustment and they started stretch passing and dumping.

The only reason that was a close game was because of Fleury. The Rags controlled that game pretty comfortably. Much more so than was reflected in the score. Live in denial all you want, Ian Cole playing more than anyone on the team isn't going to win a series. - jfkst1
BS, we played fine after the first period. Especially considering who was in the lineup. have a beer, relax man, it's over. We will get them next time. Way closer than we thought it would be. |

No Rags trolls. That's how you know it was too close for comfort for them. They also know the reffing was decidedly biased. |

Well, the second goal is on the refs. Should have been coincidental roughing calls. How that never came about is mind boggling. - Oneonta Penguin
It's a shame that that was the deciding goal. But of course all we have ever heard for years now is how the Pens get all the calls.

So they score 28 seconds into the game?? Certainly hope that doesn't happen again.
4th line scored & didn't let the team down did they? Maybe ease up on the poop they cop a little now.
Who score for the Rags! Love if we could get some goals from our D (did I say that or think that?)!!!!
How were the possession numbers - did they win their battle? |

Apparently the King was offering up gifts through the game just no one there to accept???
Maybe more net front presence for the rebounds next game - just going on the commentary I heard. |

Yes ... yes, they are. - Oneonta Penguin
not with what the pens are currently putting out there.
crosby was mediocre. doesnt help that he really doesnt have any help.
kunitz and perron and whoever else gets put up there with them. all voids right now.
hell of a top 6. people can blame crosby and malkins salaries all they want. but thats 7 million of nothing in the top 6.
the defense obviously isnt going to generate anything sans letang. |

Rags didnt look amazing, I never thought they were that good of a team this season.
Pens D is garbage. Scuds, Chorney and Dumo are border NHL Dmen if that.
Im not going to complain too much, this is what I expected and what everyone should. It would be a miracle if they can pull off this series.
For the trade 71 talk, which I was supporting yrs ago. Just remember at this point, the Pens needs for next season are...2 top 6 F's, a 3C, mid level Dman, backup G, and pretty much an entier bottom 6 line. If you move 71 you now need a 2C. I think thats too many pieces and 71 doesnt bring all that back. Maybe 2-3 spots and a pick.
I dont see the Pens getting better anytime soon. |

What you said was they played as you expected basically calling the team poop & it finished 2-1.
Flower is the goalie & a good one - he is supposed to keep us in the game.
So what your saying is that Flower being a good goalie kept us in it - Price Rinne both good goalies keeping their teams competitive. The King has been the best for a few years but it's a team sport JFK, & if Cole steps up for us great. I suppose your 1 of these guys that doesn't believe a team needs luck to win, they just need to be perfect & good players play great & bad players are just poop all the time.
You are starting to sound like a guy that sits in an office reading about how the real world functions but never getting out to experience it?
If Cole can channel Martinez & score the GWG for Stanley that will be (frank)ing great! Even if he's just a poop player in your eyes. |

moving malkin just isnt the solution in my eyes. he was single handedly carrying his line, injuries and all, to at least generating chances.
granted, i agree. i dont see the team switching a button and getting better. they need at least one young forward of substance. someone like zucker, stone, ect.
then basically not have sutter on the third line. i know he had 20 goals, but he just cant do the things that need to be done from that slot.
having letang and maatta would go a long way towards fixing the defense.

the bolts are on their way up though. all of their pieces are assets appreciating in value. they just need to learn how to be great.
i would (frank)ing kill for one of tyler johnson or nikita kutcherov. |
