So follow this irony....

if the blues lose to the wild and the hawks lose in regulation, the blues face the hawks in the first round.

Wow, carey price just set a single season goalie wins for the Canadians. That is pretty impressive thinking of the great goalies they have had. 43 wins in a season. I wonder how many are s/o wins though. that record needs an asterisk.

Yeah but if the Blues win and the Ducks lose and……………………..

Forget all that. Any team we face is going to be a tough battle. Right now i am not fearing the Hawks like i am the other teams besides calgary. With Tarasenko and Steen back this team can go far. We are playing right, making few mistakes and our goaltender is not a siv.

Wow, didn't realize the central is sending 5 teams.

Pavelec and Dubnyk have been playing out of their minds. Chicago, well, its Chicago.

I would prefer to let Nash/Chi beat each other up and have to face either Wild (they owned the last 2 games against us) or Jets (their goalie has saved them)

Had to look ate who was in, in order to realize we cannot play vancouver or Calgary

And to wish a guy a career ending injury because you don't like his game? Real class move there. You must referee men's league.

I don't think you read my post correctly. I stated the last thing I wanted to do was wait for an ambulance ...for anyone. I get those types out of the game for their protection as much as others once it appears they are having one of those nights. I never wished an injury on anyone I just stated that someone is gonna take it out on him one of these days because of the way he is. He is a very good player and he doesn't have to do that crap to be effective. It costs him respect.

Technically I was wrong...

If we win in R or O and Ducks win in SO, then we tie in ROW with the Ducks. If that happens we win on the 4th tie breaker because we kill them in goal differential.

So Chicago gets Nashville or Blues or Ducks in a wild scenario
Blues get Chicago, Jets or Wild.

Pietro, Oshie, maybe JayBo?

Jaybo as captain? Hahaha that would be hilarious.

Wouldn't Anaheim have the head to head tiebreaker against the blues?

I can't explain it but it is possible for us to sin the conference. Blues win and ducks loss obviously but then a ducks s/o win and Blue win then some weird 3rd tie breaker stuff. its all weird

Too hard to describe.

Blues just go out and win on saturday. Figure that will be your opponent and Treat it like a playoff game.

They can't control the other games, so just do what they can.

You give Allen the start i think. He is the hot goalie and its not a back to back. Those points still mean something and the Wild are going to come strong.

Nope. One of the Anaheim home games gets tossed out. So the modified head to head is 1-1. (can't advantage a team in head to head by giving them more home games).

Why is that, cause of uneven home and home?

If two or more clubs are tied in points during the regular season, the standing of the clubs is determined in the following order:
Tiebreaker rules per nhl.com
1.The fewer number of games played (i.e., superior points percentage).
2.The greater number of games won, excluding games won in the Shootout. This figure is reflected in the ROW column.
3.The greater number of points earned in games between the tied clubs. If two clubs are tied, and have not played an equal number of home games against each other, points earned in the first game played in the city that had the extra game shall not be included. If more than two clubs are tied, the higher percentage of available points earned in games among those clubs, and not including any "odd" games, shall be used to determine the standing.
4.The greater differential between goals for and against for the entire regular season. NOTE: In standings a victory in a shootout counts as one goal for, while a shootout loss counts as one goal against.

This.

Backes is a (very) good player and I totally agree, he falls into that category of a guy you love on your team and hate as an opponent.

That said, is he good captain? Good captains win the big games and lead and help their coach get the most out of their team. I think on that score, thus far he 's failed, in part because he loses it and resorts to dirty after the whistle stuff and sets a poor example for the rest of his team.

Much was made of Toews losing it in round 2 in 2013—but he reined it in and the rest is history.

Compare the Skins on the wall of two captains—both who've played on very talented teams at eveyr leavel. Toews has them. backes doesn't. maybe this is his year. Honestly, i don't think it is for Toews.

Backes does WAY too much after the whistle crap. Doesn't matter who you're a fan of. Maybe this is the year he takes his leadership to another level.

A Blues-Jets first round will put that to the test, because guys like Byfuglien and Ladd know how to press Backes' buttons. and they will.

john it is not quite a fair comparison. the hawks rebuild took much longer and they were stocked before scotty's son came on board. so it is no surprise the blues took longer especially when they chose johnson insted of toews, you are welcome.

but honestly last season lots of injuries and then seabrook crosses the line and ko's the blue's season. might have had a skin on the wall, especially if a blues player would have welcomed seabrook back by crossing the line.

i had admired the hawks even though i must hate them, until i heard wakey, wakey. i love hard hockey but tht kind of hit and making fun of someone who later in life will pay the price for that crap is crass subhuman behavior.

still i enjoy your blog. great season, lts of good teams and excitement. hawks and blues are very close.

i like winnipeg but what i see as their weakness is discipline. if the refs call them even remotely close you see they do not quite yet have the personal to keep pace. problem is clutch and grab is nearly fully back.

You know, JJ does have a lot of balls to come in here and expound his opinions on David Backes when last year he talks about how he had the head shot coming due to the "target on his back". When I see little cheap shots by Hawk players, and there have been plenty, it's annoying but I understand that it's part of the game. The line is crossed though when you're talking about serious injuries that can be career and even quality of life threatening. That line was not respected last year by quite a few Hawk players and fans including JJ, and it still leaves a bad taste.

Saturday night I will be pulling for a Blues loss like never before so that we get a chance to draw the Hawks in the first round. They should start Elliott anyway just to give Allen a break and keep Ells fresh in case he's needed.

That is true, he always comes back. Gotta figure it's going to be extra hard for him this time though, considering he just made a complete fool of himself. Honestly, how the F*** do you not know how to spell Nixon?

And I know he's in no hurry to come in here and admit that Guru and I were right about the Kings missing the playoffs.

boom! that happened. the kings did what i said they would. the blues are looking great. going to be interesting.

no need to play many olayers on saturday give elliott the net. such a nice thing.

- BluemanGuruu

I wouldn't be surprised to see Elliot get the start on Saturday but I don't think the Blues can rest everyone and give this game away. They're playing for the top seed in the WC and has been mentioned - if they finish with the two seed there's still a scenario where they could draw Chicago plus Kane in the first round.

I think they'll treat this game as all the others.
