kap is only 18, he didn't dominate by any means in the swedish league, he had 20 points in 40 games...that tells me all I need to know about how he would do in the nhl right now, not to mention I dont think we should throw an 18y.o. kid who is a big ? into the barnfire that currently is the penguins, thatd be a surefire way to ruin him - JLT168
I can go on and on about my viewpoint here. But I simply dont think it would ruin his development....pure speculation. If bringing a player to the NHL early ruins their development, that is an indictment of the player, imo. |

Tyler Seguin was not traded for fair value. The only people that would claim that are Bruins fans that are on suicide watch and are trying to cling onto dear life. Phil Kessel was only traded for fair value because the B's drafted Seguin with that pick, but then they sold Seguin for fair parts so its a stretch to include The Phil on that as well. - Victoro311
Are we saying at the time or in hindsight? At the time, Boston was getting the more proven player in Eriksson when Seguin was traded (Boston wanted him gone due to "maturity" problems).
Also, regardless of who the pick was used on, the package that TML gave up for Kessel was ridiculous. Everyone knew it was going to be a top-10 pick, and at the time, Kessel was not worth that pick, plus a second and another first. Again, I'm viewing these players at the time of the trade, no in hindsight, because I don't think the latter is fair. |

i dont know what your side is, but no way either of them should be called up and burn a year of their current contracts. would make no sense whatsoever. - SuperHenderson13
Sundqvists is already being burned. Kapanen gets 9 games without burning. |

you comparing bennett to stone, is like me comparing zibanejad to crosby or malkin.................there is no comparison.
hoffman is tied for 11th in the league in goal scoring, and stone is 1 pt out of the top 30 in pts, and both are rookies.................if you don't clasify that as top six players, then you're dumber than i thought. - sensarmy_11
I am not comparing Bennett to Stone, Bennett blows; I don't think Stone blows. I would actually like him on our team, but if he would be playing top 6 I would not be so confident in my teams chances.
Bennett IS a top 6 player
But the only problem with that statement is that he sucks at hockey, and has the body of a 13 year old girl. |

"Is this what you left me for?!!"
- Penguins' self respect.
Injuries, 5 D, Adams. No. NJ Devils have allowed just 2 more goals than Pittsburgh and I would suggest that they have far less to work with against similar opposition.
PIM and another game where a lead turns into a long run of consecutive goals against in a loss.
The 'system' which neither can score reliably or defend reliably is one thing. When would you say the last time the Penguins played a 60 minute game was? Does that fall more heavily upon the coaching staff or the players at this point?

I don't usually check out your threads. But after reading some of the crap last night and today - much of it by this pin-brain - I was starting to think the bad reputation of Pens fans was true.
But looking at it closer it really is just a couple of clowns trying to publicly demonstrate their low IQs. And every team has some of those. |

Well obviously if we get an absurd deal, but no team is going to agree to the kind of deal that would make sense for the Pens to pull the trigger on. - Victoro311

its a crapshoot, no way to know, some players can accept the challenge and is helps make them into top tier players, other players become a deer in the headlights, lose all confidence, and decide to go play in the KHL as a mediocre KHL player for the rest of their career

For? We'd (we should) trade anyone if the return was good and improved the team overall, thats common sense. |

Well then that further proves the point. Even when you think you're getting fair value for super stars, you will end up losing the trade 9/10 times. Hence why people calling to trade Sid, Geno, and Letang are idiots and don't deserve responses. |

Because he's unfamiliar with the system and his would-be line mates style of play. Not to mention he is also unfamiliar with North American style hockey. If he absolutely ate the Liiga, then I'd have a diffrent opinion, but he was pretty average over there, so my fear is that he'd be as lost on Geno's wing as Boychuk and Tangradi were in 2012 before eventually just settling with over the hill Matt Cooke.
I'm not saying that he is destined to by Zach Boychuk. I'm just saying that it is likely that his play would imitate Boychuk's in 2012 if we were to bring him up for the playoffs. That last part about Rutherford drafting Boychuk was more of a joke made in dark humor. Still scary to think about though. - Victoro311
i dont like your dark humor haha.
but serious question, would boychuk or tangradi be a downgrade on comeau/kunitz right now? im only kind of joking. |

I don't think you can say for certain that he is/isn't a top-6 player unless he's paired with other top-6 players for long stretches of games, which he hasn't been. |

Hahaha once again home run - nbartley9
I did. The fact you don't know your ass from your elbow is true in this. I gave the facts. They are more balanced ... they have more secondary scoring; they are younger; that franchise is more balanced as far as the cap. I don't see a Lapierre or Adams out there. I don't see a Spaling type out on the ice for them.
Show me you know the game. We don't have a Stone, a Hoffman, a Zibanejad, a Chiasson, or a Lazar to speak of. That is what distinguishes them from us. Obviously having two superstars last night didn't do much for us, right?
Stone and Hoffman would be top six forwards here. If you think otherwise, find something else to follow, like ping pong.
By the way, I thought you were done responding to me champ. Again, you can't help yourself. |

Fire the GM, who has had 1 draft class, that really isn't fair to judge on yet...
Probably not, GMs don't often get fired after 1 year. Head coaches are a more likely candidate. - Guile
Don't know how this is the coaches fault.
You have aging stars that have played a ton of hockey over the past decade including international tournaments.
Combined with 7 years worth of brutal drafting.
I don't know if the scapegoat for Pens fans is actually working for the Pens.
Just seems like your team was poorly run, and now it will pay for it, playoffs or not. |

Yes. But a legit top 2 D would have to be coming back. And with Letangs durability issues, I don't think that will happen. |

That's why you can't get "fair" value. It has to be a clear win. And of the deal I saw proposed (Max P + Galchenyk + Gallagher for Malkin + Perron + 2nd) is a steal. |

Don't get me wrong Bennett absolutely sucks, but he certainly isn't a bottom 6 player.
Also I don't think Stone and The Hoff suck like Bennett clearly does, but I also know they aren't players I would want on my top 6, say what you want your not changing my mind. - nbartley9
So to recap...Bennett sucks and is worse than Stone and Hoffman but he is a top 6 forward while even though they dont suck as bad as Bennett you dont want either of them in your top 6? |

Phil Kessel
Dion Phaneuf (pre-Toronto)
Tyler Seguin
Jeff Carter
I guess Seguin or Carter is the most recent. - jmatchett383
I agree, I personally only consider Kessel a superstar in this group, even then, was he really a superstar at the time of trade? Seguin is NOW, but prior to the trade I don't think he was considered a superstar, same with Phaneuf, and Carter.. Really good hockey players but not necessarily Superstars. |

This goes back to my very post that you responded to. Sure.... if we get a ridiculous deal that involves top pairing defenseman on the cheap along with other assets, but why would anyone do that.
No, with what people would offer for Letang, I think its better for the Penguins to keep him. He's an elite two way defenseman that is on a solid contract. Anything that we'd get in return would be a downgrade. |

Ottawa has a bunch of young prospects doing well because they got a chance to do well. Pittsburgh doesn't not believe in this philosophy. They may not have a bunch of early rounders in the farm but as we've all seen diamonds are found in the ruff too. Wish they'd take a flyer on a few of the other guys, everyone knows it couldn't hurt. |

And how much of that was affected by the 1 year of the current GM? The 7 years of drafts obviously not.
People aging and playing in the Olympics last year? Also not on the current GM.
Pen's fans scapegoat... probably not a GM issue.
Team being run poorly, that is vague, but sounds like you are hinting at coaching, which again, not on the GM. The owner hired the coach this time.
Try again bud, this is fun seeing how dumb your trolling attempts are. |

Just ignore the clown. He obviously thinks a 61-point 22 year old rookie and a 25 year old rookie with 27 goals and 48 points are common occurrences. They obviously suck to him. Beau Bennett on the other hand is a top six forward. Him and his four goals and fragile wrists. LOL.
There are Penguin fans that do follow hockey outside of the Pens. He doesn't. |

Agreed, his contract could be crippling to this team. He lost a large amount of his trade value after the stroke and now concussions. I know it is not the popular thought here but I would explore a trade market for 71. I am not saying actively pursue a trade, but i would visit it. I dont see this happening in the least bit, but to bring in some assets + proven young nhl caliber forwards(Under 25) i think the depth you could add plus the cap relief would be valuable. |

Right. And my opinion is that the path taken is solely on the player. Players *can* be ruined by poor coaching. Think Beau Bennett being forced into playing a physical game. But you can't ruin a player long term just by playing a few NHL games, even if that player gets overwhelmed. If that is the case, the root cause is not being rushed to the NHL but rather that player was never going to make it.
