This goes back to my very post that you responded to. Sure.... if we get a ridiculous deal that involves top pairing defenseman on the cheap along with other assets, but why would anyone do that.
No, with what people would offer for Letang, I think its better for the Penguins to keep him. He's an elite two way defenseman that is on a solid contract. Anything that we'd get in return would be a downgrade. - Victoro311
the only thing consistent about letang is his lack of durability, I guess 7.5 million or whatever we pay him is fair value considering he only plays 75% of the season...I think if we could get a good young d man or a solid top 4 dman, a prospect, and a high draft pick, then why not, better than waiting for him to get hurt next season

That's why you can't get "fair" value. It has to be a clear win. And of the deal I saw proposed (Max P + Galchenyk + Gallagher for Malkin + Perron + 2nd) is a steal. - jmatchett383

So to recap...Bennett sucks and is worse than Stone and Hoffman but he is a top 6 forward while even though they dont suck as bad as Bennett you dont want either of them in your top 6? - did109
No ... Stone and Hoffman suck; they wouldn't be top six forwards in Pittsburgh, but the great Beau Bennett and his four goals and fragile wrists are exactly what Pittsburgh needs in the top six. That is what he is saying. Pittsburgh has no need for a young 61-point, 24-goal scorer or a 25-year old rookie that has 27 goals without the benefit of playing with a superstar. That is what he is getting at. |

sooo...
malkin for stone, hoffman, and a 1st or 2nd rounder?!?!?! |

Lots of delusion on the thread by Pens fans, and with no one to blame it must be rough for you guys. Sorry for your previous GM leaving your cupboards barren with all those terrible drafts.
I think that the pundits are right, and this Penguins team in addition to no heart, lack the depth and prospect pool to prevent the inevitable rebuild. |

Did you see the season he had this year? Its not his fault he got a freak stroke last season. You can't sell low on someone like Letang. I'd take Letang on his contract over Subban on his in any universe. I'd want something like Seth Jones, a young NHL forward, and a prospect. |

Thanks for clearing that up for me.....who wants those productive young goal scorers who can produce on their own without an 87 or 71. Obviously the Penguins are better off with Kunitz, Bennett and Winnik splitting top 6 minutes. |

No one is trading for busted Kris Letang. Dude is broken, and signed for 6 more years.
Hopefully he doesn't retire early and stick you guys with that recapture penalty. |

Sorry, Letang doesn't have that type of trade value. No one is going to pay that cost for a fragile, injury prone defenseman who is more likely to miss 20 games per year. It's not about getting the freak stroke. It's the rest of the injuries that comes with him. |

Because of this perception he will not win any trade in which Letang is included. So every Pens fan should stop trying to trade him. Look at what he did this season. You really want to trade a game breaker like that on the blue line for spare parts? |

I am sorry but its a typical season for letang, point wise right up there at the top, but due to injuries hes out of the lineup and not going to win the norris again
im not saying I want subban for him, I am not even saying we need a purely offensive D man, but a freaking rock of a d-man is what we need, one who is good at both ends of the ice
and no way would nashville trade all that for broken letang, plus they have weber and josi so no need for tanger, I know you were just throwing out names but as someone else mentioned no one is going to pay fair value for a broken letang |

You're actually agreeing with me without knowing it. I think you missed the beginning of this debate. I was trying to explain how we would never win a trade involving Letang because anything that the Pens would get in return would not help the team more than Letang at his cap hit does. What I laid out is a trade that makes sense to the Pens, but doesn't make sense for the Preds at all and thus will never happen. Any package much less than that and the trade stops making sense for the Pens. Thus, Letang will not be dealt so stop trying to armchair GM him away. |

JR would read your previous post and turn, look up to fitz or billy g, angle his head like a dog when you try to talk to it and say, "prospect?"
Followed by, "Hey, should we get the Staals and Semin out of Carolina?" |

No one is giving good value on Letang in a trade. The time to trade him was BEFORE his extension. Which is what most Pens fans wanted because they knew he was injury prone. Almost anyone would take Subban at his cap hit over Letang at his because Subban actually stays healthy. |

this is true, its hard to stomach but true, its very frustrating being a pens fan the last 5 years or so, not to say we are favorites to win it every year, but just the lack of emotion and heart is whats so dissapointing.
when we see the stat that says the pens havent won a single comeback game where were down going into the 3rd, I cant even think of a game where we at least tied it up only to lose in OT or even in regulation...maybe it happened once or twice this season |

I did. The fact you don't know your ass from your elbow is true in this. I gave the facts. They are more balanced ... they have more secondary scoring; they are younger; that franchise is more balanced as far as the cap.
Show me you know the game. We don't have a Stone, a Hoffman, a Zibanejad, a Chiasson, or a Lazar to speak of. That is what distinguishes them from us. Obviously having two superstars last night didn't do much for us, right?
Stone and Hoffman would be top six forwards here. If you think otherwise, find something else to follow, like ping pong.
By the way, I thought you were done responding to me champ. Again, you can't help yourself. - Oneonta Penguin
I cant help myself your right, but you just keep poking at me (with horrible insults like idiot); so yeah I will entertain the masses.
You are out of your mind if you would be happy with those guys as top 6 forwards on a contending team. Chiasson and Lazar are who you are going to hang your hat on, wow I cant even fathom what you see when you watch hockey. You just keep making crap up like you follow Ottawa and know the ability and ups and downs of every single player in the league. Listen buddy boy I have the interweb too.
You are bringing up the Sens roster on google (shout out Guile) and just picking and choosing what stats you want to throw out; go ahead and deny it everyone here knows that's all you bring to the table every single day I have yet to see you post an original idea that has any merit or entertainment value, you have watched the Sens what 4 times this year? You don't know these players stop pretending that you do. I have watched them as much as you have this year, go ahead and bash me for not wanting those 2 on my top 6. If you do it clearly shows who knows hockey and who doesn't.
I would like to have both of those players ,they play a good game. But I sure as hell don't want them on my top 6.
Im sure you will come back at me with classic comebacks like you love to do so much, with your very witty insults; just do me a favor and remember who it is exactly your talking to. I bring something to this thread, agree with it or not; I don't go around throwing out school yard insults and burn my fingertips trying to look through teams rosters pretending I know them through and through, like you obviously do. Bring something to the table I dare you.

I'd rather have a 1st rounder in the lottery than having Perron. If it were a late pick it wouldn't be a big deal.

Cant stand Subban, but this is blatant Homer Bias. Subban has missed under 10 games due to injury his entire career. Letang has missed over an entires season worth of games in that same span. Their contracts arent all that far apart not to mention Subban is younger and getting better by the year with the stats to prove it. |

I just don't think we'd get a fair deal, but I also don't think we're in that poopty of a place with him. He had a solid, healthy season this year until that Doan hit which was just unfortunate in every aspect of the play. Moving forward his 7.5 isn't bad at all for an elite two way defenseman, so if he can put his concussion days behind him like Crosby did (don't worry I just knocked on wood) we're just fine. |
