Listen, again, people want to wave the McIlrath pom poms fine, but don't get upset when A LOT of people don't like the guy 5 years after being drafted at #10. If he makes it, we'll all gladly eat crow, but I won't hold my breath for that to happen. - B2B76

Anyone know the details of Skjei's ELC? Read he signed it today which I thought would make him Pro Eligible right away. Some are saying the contract actually starts next season...if thats the case, why did he sign it today? Why not play out his ATO and if he performs well, negotiate a better ELC? |

(frank) eating crow. You guys will eat my poop after he becomes a fan favorite. - rangerdanger94
If there is a way for us to make a bet on this on this board I will. I say he doesn't play 40 games as a Ranger. Would you take me up on that bet?
EDIT: I would even entertain lowering the game count. 40 games is a lot. But your a big believer. So 40 games? |

It starts next year. He signed the max ELC for a first round pick probably...not much to negotiate. |

We all saw Buff's viscious cross check to Miller's neck. But you need to take a look at what he did to Kreider on the game winner. Could have been worse than what he did to Miller. Glad he missed. Just sayin'.... |

He was the 10th overall pick in the 2010 draft. Do you really think he is developing according to the Rangers then schedule? So, the Rangers drafted a guy in the Top 10 in 2010, and still didn't expect him to be in the NHL? That was their schedule? Do you really honestly believe that?
So, it's just the inconvenient truth that I refuse to ackonwledge? That I have some how have unrealistic expectations for him, and this was all part of some grand plan. O.k. Maybe that's the case. Or, maybe it's the case that he'll being playing Top minutes in the Swiss league in two years. Maybe that's the inconvenient truth. Or maybe its the inconvenient truth that the polar ice caps are melting, and New York maybe under water by the time McIlrath's development schedule has completed. - Pete V
That's my point , you're holding him on the 1st round pedestal. He was the wrong choice in that slot and won't live up to that draft position. I won't argue that, I fully agree. But that's the managements fault they went off the board with the pick. No one else had him that high. So yes he is developing at a normal rate for a big shutdown physical defensman. How many current solid NHL d-man spent 2-3-4-5 years in the minors but are now thriving in the NHL? There's more than a few. There's still very little in the way from him becoming a very serviceable dman somewhere in the NHL. |

Brady Skjei is 1 year away from being a bust apparently. Considering McIlrath already is one. Yes McIlrath was drafted 2 years before Skjei, but he lost a year due to injury. So Skjei only has 1 year to crack the NHL. |

Mcilrath had 3 years of Chl hockey and 4 years in the ahl. You comparing Skjei's 4 years of HS hockey to that? |

McIlrath has had 2.5 years in the AHL and Skjei has had 3 years in the NCAA.
Edit: also Skjei played USHL not high school. |

I think we can all revisit the McIlrath discussions down the road again when he's traded at the upcoming draft, or the next training camp. No need to beat a dead horse here. Some of us haven't made up our mind yet on him while others have let that ship sail. |

I gotcha, Matz. And believe me, I don't dislike the kid in the least bit. I hope he makes it, so I want to make sure that my lack of optimism isn't seen as disliking him. In any event, I'll guess we'll find out soon.
