McIlrath is developing right on schedule? Really. That schedule sucks my ass. - Pete V
It's too bad it's an inconvenient truth to you. Keep holding him to that 1st round pedestal and you'll remain disappointed.

I think fans just would've expected Chara not eric cairns being drafted that high. Which I think is fair to say that's about all he'll be at the very best |

I don't think this whole argument matters to be honest. McIlrath can't clear through waivers freely next year so if he doesn't break camp with the Rangers someone else might claim him anyway. |

He was the 10th overall pick in the 2010 draft. Do you really think he is developing according to the Rangers then schedule? So, the Rangers drafted a guy in the Top 10 in 2010, and still didn't expect him to be in the NHL? That was their schedule? Do you really honestly believe that?
So, it's just the inconvenient truth that I refuse to ackonwledge? That I have some how have unrealistic expectations for him, and this was all part of some grand plan. O.k. Maybe that's the case. Or, maybe it's the case that he'll being playing Top minutes in the Swiss league in two years. Maybe that's the inconvenient truth. Or maybe its the inconvenient truth that the polar ice caps are melting, and New York maybe under water by the time McIlrath's development schedule has completed.

I agree it is a luxury and the best dman should fill the void but prospects are developed to fill a void. It's also a luxury if they can play multiple positions.
The book on McIlrath you read is from people who haven't followed him. So that book is crap. Summers is a 27 year old Hunwick 2.0 clone with poor desicsion making, McIlrath is 22 and playing top pairing in Hartford and developing right on schedule.
Also the ideas to turn him into a 4th line winger are retarded, again coming from people who haven't seen him play more than a game or so. It's the dumbest f*cking idea I read around here of late. - MatzCT

Even more of an argument to try the wing. It's no doubt we could use his toughness in the lineup but not as a liability on D. What's his year in Hartford? Stats? |

That all maybe be true, I don't know for sure either. My point is simply that he's actually developing at a normal pace for a big d-man. So the ship hasn't sailed, the bust judgement is still to be made.
But how nice would it have been to have someone like him sticking up for team mates yesterday when Buf is crosschecking Miller and Zucc like that? I bet he wouldn't have stood by for that.
I think he fits the style just fine considering half of our or at least Girardi and Klein are n't the fleetest of foot. Players like Yandle need a stay at home partner. To me any reservation thus far is simply because he's 22 on a veteran team looking to win now, depth and experience is what AV prefers. - MatzCT
Klein and Girardi don't have great speed but it doesn't mean they don't skate well. You're also underrating the skill that Klein and Girardi possess not to mention they are highly intelligent players. Now is McIlrath a smart player? I don't know, but he can't skate and by the sound of things he has hands of stone. That type of D-man is becoming somewhat obsolete. |

Agree. I will be absolutely shocked if you ever hear McIlrath chants of some sort at MSG. He was a bad draft pick, it happens. It's ok, We've survived without him lol |

Well after 6 years as a prospect it's either that or trade him/let him go. It's just as dumb to see him an NHL a Dman at this point, because it ain't happening. At least in NYC it isn't - Slimtj100

Anyone notice how Hayes made 2-3 great passes Hagelin that resulted in whiffed shots, or mishandled pucks? AV really needs to pair Hayes up with a finisher...I'm hoping MSL will be that but unfortunately, MSL also shows the ability to misplay prime chances too much. I wish he would play Hayes with Nash. Nash would miraculously find the puck on his tape all the time. I think Nash's biggest problem right now is, he's not getting the puck where he can be dangerous and he's being played too tight when he carries the puck to get to that area himself. Hayes can make the surprise passes that will find him when he's in those areas creating time for Nash to shoot. |

Yeah but was that because the B's didn't have a spot for him or because he looked like McIlrath everytime he played with the big boys? |

Listen, again, people want to wave the McIlrath pom poms fine, but don't get upset when A LOT of people don't like the guy 5 years after being drafted at #10. If he makes it, we'll all gladly eat crow, but I won't hold my breath for that to happen. |
