He plays on the top pairing because he complements Edler. He's not a top pairing guy on his own. He is behind Edler, Hamhuis, and Bieksa right no on the depth chart, despite how poorly people believe Bieksa has played. Not saying he isn't a good fit or shouldn't get signed, but ranking him as a top pair guy is not accurate.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but Baertschi had another assist last night.

Tanev is worth 3.75-4.25 per maybe over a 3-4 year term. Injuries and softness are a concern so if he wants north of 4.5 we have to let him walk. There would be life after Tanev if that's how it turns out.

If we can sign Mike Green (or another top 3 defenceman), I'd trade Tanev for a NHL ready - Grade A prospect.

Definitely easier said than done, but should at least be explored. Tanev is a great defensive defenceman, but he's not going to score many points in his career. If we're paying Tanev 4-5 million over 4-5 years, we're essentially limiting the amount of offence that 4-5 million can produce over the long term.
