Hamhuis is interesting, he has a little edge that you can easily overlook or forget about until.. woah, did he just slash or cross check that guy in front? - hillbillydeluxe
I've noticed that too. It certainly goes against his soft-spoken/calm image. As I said, I think it would be a mistake to trade him (if he agreed to waive his NTC). The guy is the best puck moving/skating defenseman on the team and still relatively young
P.S. Tanev is decent and hopefullly he continues to improve, but he'll never be the player Hamhuis is regardless. |

Need 4 well rounded D and 3 guys who can provide some offensive or grit.
As of now Hamhuis, Bieksa, Tanev are well rounded and Edler is offensive IMO the rest is either a project without much hope of success (Clendening,Weber,Sbisa) or mediocre at best projection IMO(Corrado, Stanton).
I've said it before resign Tanev, let Sbisa walk and offer the rest of the RFA two contracts only.
Spend any UFA money shoring up the bottom 6 with a guy like McQuaid/Jackman/Odyua etc and hope one of the RFA's can stick. - belcherbd
And this is why we are a bubble team . Edler 17 PTs this year 22 last year , yes sadly that is the best of the Canucks. Our most expensive Dman has to rely on Tanev to make him steady. That too is sad.
Bieksa is the king of the Chinese fire drill D. As I asked yesterday , does anyone miss him?
Hamhuis is decent I will also be ok when he leaves.

We are talking about Sbisa right? His qualifier will be 3+ and Tanev is too much at 4? - belcherbd
Tanev is not worth 4 .
You can give Sbisa a pay reduction of 10% |

I agree. Horvat has got that 'beast' vibe going. You can tell he is extremely strong on his skates and tough to move. And that will only get better as time goes by. He just seems like the complete package. Skill, leadership, tenacity, offensive ability, a defensive conscience, as well as other intangibles. I just love this kid and he's certainly changed my mind about the outcome of the Schneider trade - Zogg
I still think we should have gotten more for Schneider, and inter-divisional rivalry be damned you sell him for the best price you can get. |

The thing is, who are the Canucks going to get to replace a number one defenseman, and why would they do it in the first place? |

Still? I thought that was under the old CBA, still Sbisa at 2.5 is not worth it. I'm going to agree to disagree with you on Tanev as I don't think we will ever agree. |

I agree but it's nice to see that transaction has panned out nonetheless. It would have been great to get something substantial for Schneider and I was extremely pissed off when they did that deal. But Horvat has certainly mitigated my original distaste at that trade |

Bubble team because we don't have the talent across the board, avg goaltending, avg goalscoring and avg defense equals........average hockey team. I know Edler is struggling offensively but that doesn't mean he isn't capable of 40 + seasons still. |

For sure. The original risk of the move is absent now that we are where we are |

The two biggest needs that Canucks have needed for years is Grit and Secondary Scoring.
Tanev brings neither of those
Matthias is second highest goal scorer on the team.
They are both worth between 3-3.5 |

It was still a proven starter for a hope and a dream, just because that hope is looking a bit more realistic doesn't make the value any better IMO.
If there is one thing on this board that all agree with is that Gillis (frank)ed up the goalie situation.
Schneider 2nd in sv% this season and Lou is 12th.....ahhh the good ol days. |

I just looked up Hamhuis stats and it seems we're onto something there - he had more than 100 minutes in penalties (140 one year!) while playing with Prince George. His penalty minutes seemed to have receded since he was with Nashville (he had close to 70 minutes in almost every season with the club). So yes, it seems like he does have that 'truculence' factor, but doesn't use it as much as he used to (I think his skating and all around game has improved so much that he doesn't need to take penalties to make up for any errors or mistakes) |

You never will talent across the board when you throw 4 mil dollars at a soft Dman with 25 hits and 17 PTs and let your 20 goal scoring forwards walk for free because you don't want to pay them more than 2.5 |

I know it's still tough not to think 'what if' but we've fortunately come out of that trade with a positive outcome (and we still don't even know the ceiling that Bo is capable of reaching) |

Schneider should have been traded the year before he was for a good draft pick and a prospect, his value was high. Once again Vancouver management screwed things up.
Ultimately I'm pretty happy with the return, I actually was at the time and hindsight has me even moreso now. |

Seems like he's certainly on the same trajectory and has the same attributes/characteristics that Linden displayed when he came into the league |

Matthias may score 20 this year but I doubt he ever does again, your arguments don't make any sense day to day.
Higgins is a bum because he scored 8 this year even though he scored 17 last year and was the 2nd leading goal scorer but Matthias who might hit 20 for the first time in his career and is shooting at nearly a 50% higher rate than his average is worth more money.
I get that you want more physical/offensive dmen but not resigning Tanev is robbing peter to pay paul or whatever the hell that book says. |
