Read my post above. - Nucker101
I don't think points should be discounted. It means something to be able to create offense and capitalize on chances. |

I mainly look at zone starts, level of competition, points per 60 mins and yes I do now prefer to look at scoring chance ratios instead of corsi. And I do also look at hits, but only road hits since some stat guys in certain buildings credit a hit for basically any
contact made with an opposing player. I like Tanev and thin he's well worth the 4M or 4.5M he'll get but I'm definitely not happy with him being the Canucks best d-man. Doesn't mean we should let him go because of it though. - Nucker101
Sometimes you can take that piece of paper crumple it up and bend over. Remember when Willie rung Toews bell and what that did to the Hawks ? Or when Keith rung Daniels bell , what that did to the Canucks.
Sometimes just looking at what happens on the ice and not your piece of paper can tel the story.

What about level of teammate? Has to be worth extra points to be passing the puck to Matthias, Higgins, Hansen all of the time. - golfingsince
Holy (frank), Tavaras is the best ever. He made pt/ game players out of boyes and moulson. |

Pretty sure that one was for you - golfingsince
I am glad you figured that out. As you were. |

That as well, Tanev and Edler suck offensively for two guys that actually play a large chunk of minutes with the Twins. Edler especially since he's also on PP1 with them. Any decent offensive d-man would average around or above a .5PPG in his position, even with some tough minutes at 5v5.
Edler-Tanev are a damn good shutdown pairing, Benning just needs to get an offensive pairing going. Something Gillis has failed to do since Ehrhoff went down and Edler had back surgery. |

You didn't rank them all but made us.....bastid
Seriously though almost all the categories depend on usage. A good defensman is able to play in all situations, if you need to protect him to increase scoring it takes away from him. Agree with you on hits, only should look at road, checking out the difference between some of the leaders home and away is always a good laugh. Same with giveaways and take aways |

That goes both ways, plenty of teams rally around one of their guys getting "rekt".
Like I said, Tanev is great for a guy in his role, why should we punish him for nothing being Doughty or Weber? Sign him and go out and try to acquire a PMD to play on another pairing so then you can have your defined role players.
Edler - Tanev as the shutdown duo
A PMD that can play on PP1 as well, ideally two guys who can generate offense here
Sbisa or Pedan and whoever is the physical guys who play 15 mins max
If you could move Bieksa and sign a righty PMD like Green that would be ideal. |

So use stats like hits and goals during this year but disregard any stats that dont correspond with your line of thought. Gotcha, let's sign Shane O'Brien |

It is part of the game. Look what Chicago did to Backes last year when the Blues were leading 2-0 |

So many variables. That's why statistics should be used for support. |

Come to think of it, Cody Franson fits the bill as well yet. Plus they have the physical stay-at-home guys in Polak and Robidas and the soft PMD in Gardiner yet Toronto's defense sucks.... |

So let's just hope the team we are playing gets in a plane crash on the way to the game. Seriously. This is getting pathetic. You want to talk about good hatlrd hockey, fine. You want to talk about trying to end guys careers or lives that's another |

For sure they only add to the eye test, but are less objective. |

People who rely solely on stats or just the eye-test will never fully grasp player values.
Some guys are just more valuable than their stats suggest.
And some players look great(or bad) because their having a statistically lucky(or unlucky) season and/or getting easier/hard minutes. Your eyes can deceive you as well. |
