As much as we need a 2nd line forward, I agree, an offensive forward that can play both ways is sorely needed.
- vancity787

The kid actually plays defense; however, he might as well be like an extra forward - or a rover, out there at times. His puck control is excellent and he's great one on one, stickhandling around players like they are pylons. He's really put it together after a lot of growing pains, since he first got into the league.

Our team desperately needs a player like this

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/player-bio/tyson-barrie

A guy like that is available, and his name is Mike Green.

Benning has stated on multiple occasions that his goals for this team include:

1) challenging for the Stanley Cup now
2) icing a team that play a high tempo, offensive game.
3) not sacrificing any future assets for short term gain

If we know that Tanev is going to get paid 4-4.5 million and contribute 20-25 points, and we can assume that Green will get paid 6-6.5 and can score 40-45 points, I'd rather sign Green and trade Tanev.

Adding a defenceman that scores an extra 20 points is essentially the same as signing a 20 goal scorer for 2-2.5 million a year. Depending on what we can get for Tanev, this might actually be the best option. Signing Green allows us to compete for the cup now, he is exactly the PMD we need to play a high tempo game, and trading Tanev allows us to get younger. I'd especially do it if we can trade him for a player like Jeff Skinner or Evgeny Kuznetsov.

Of course we could also do this of Bieksa waived NTC

I like your logic except the part about Green.

tbt, I thought he was older... still a bit of a gamble, injuries have hampered his production a bit the last few seasons... but I guess these guy aren't often available either.

the only problem is that he's as frail as a prepubescent schoolgirl. If he could remain healthy I'd have no problem giving him that sort of money as he's certainly got the skill and talent offensively (and has actually also developed a decent defensive game)

Yeah it's a nice thought process but signing Green in lue of letting our best defensive DMan in Tanev go ain't gonna work. Even if by some minor miracle Benning brings in a guy like Green/Skinner that's what we need just to GET to the playoffs on a consistent level. Regardless of adding Green/Skinner types you don't compete for a cup with three 3rd lines and that basically wouldn't change much even if those guys are here. Getting younger is great however so many questions as to who will make this team next year and actually stay and play well.

Holy sh*t, just unbelievable. Nice prognostication, Vintage (although perhaps you jinxed things )

Flames. Will. Just. Not. Die

You've got to hand it to them, they simply refused to give up - and this, right at the tail end of their long road trip.

Calgary vs Canucks as a first round match-up - put up your hands if that provides you with orgiastic thoughts

I only saw the last goal Calgary scored and it wasn't his fault. Not sure about others though.

And his name is sven

We've been missing a sven forever

- The_Kuze

Was at the game today.

Few points worth mentioning

Ericsson's rebound control is down right awful
Biega while not flashy was easily the best/most consiatant player on the ice for either team
Pedan although solid I was expecting him to be a bit more physical
Huskins will without a doubt coach at some level
Sven has pretty slick hands, he's quick. While both teams only had one forechecker so the nuetrel zone wasn't allowing any people to get space so there was no insane dashes. On the pp he had the puck dancing. Easily the most talented guy on the Comets
Shink actually really impressed me. While his confidence is a bit shaky currently, his hustle and defensive game was great.
Gaunce is a note physical version of Higgins. Great hockey sense but shlt hands
Grenier drove the NWT a few times but looks like a bean pole out there
Archibald is garbage. Lazy piece of crap.
Finally Alex Freisen. I doubt this kid is big enough to make it as a energy guy. But he's everywhere. Hitting, hustling, blocking shots, killing penalties. If every kid has a heart like him we'd be unstoppable

Marlies

The goalie(Gibson?) Was pretty solid. Was aided be a few posts and a crossbar with 5 sec left.
Leivo- great skill and energy. Hansen type
C Brown- kid has great hands. A 6th round steal
Nylander- although it was a toss up between him and Sven on the most skill in the game. Guy is not interested. Lazy as a house cat
Ross and Devane are either cowards or agitators

Got a chance to see Colorado live a few times this year and last year. This kid can take control when he's on the ice. Very shifty, great skater, good vision, and great hockey sense. I'd love to have a guy like him quarterback our powerplay

Maybe facing off against Calgary in the first round wouldn't be such a good thing. They never quit. I can't believe they were down 4-0 and came back to take it to the shoot out.

Might as well put a shooter tutor in there instead of Anderson. Hammond all the way.
