Good post, but I wouldn't want to sign a bottom 6 player and take a roster spot from a kid - bezz44
I agree, sometimes you just have to look from within and give some of the kids a chance. Seems like WD is a coach that is willing to put faith in this type of scenario, which bodes well both short and long term
I would rather we go with youth then meeting the unrealistic demands of someone like Mathias, who has been a nice addition but who has pretty much had a lackluster career to date, and you know he's going to demand salary based on that one year |

Ya understood...I guess I'd like to see him start and play well. - LeftCoaster
So would I. Put him in against AZ or someone like that.
He's lights out against the AHL. |

Mathias hasn't shown the consistency over his career that Burrows has, so to pay him based on the one career year would be a typical managerial mistake which we see time and time again.
With respect to Burrows, as you pointed out, it's not just about points. He often creates room for others and is generally a pain in the ass to play against, an agitator with good hands and hockey sense, one of the better options to play with the Sedins. And like you said, often he doesn't even get an assist on a play which he basicallly created through his hustle and taking abuse in front of the net.
Fehr is not going to take 2 million - he is in his late 20's and is going to command a much higher salary after his fairly decent production over the years (much of it due to playing with Ovie and Backstrom on occasion - I don't think he'll ever pan out to be a 25+ goal scorer. That said, if he could be signed for minimum that would be a great option, but highly unlikely - Zogg
So Fehr is going to get more than 2 mil but Matthias ( a similar player ) doesn't deserve it.
Fehr is good enough to flank OV and Backstrom but is not good enough to break our lineup and play with players like Bonino or Vey.
Hoy vey.

Why would McMillan play tonight instead of Kenins? Makes no sense. |

As expected, no Higgins in warm-up skate. McMillan expected to play on fourth line. Line rushes coming up #Canucks #Sharks |

@benkuzma: The buzz is Higgins can't go and Kenins will stay out. May mean McMillan on fourth line and Matthias, Dorsett moving up. We'll see. #Canucks
I don't agree with WD's logic in making this decision. |

How many points do you think he'll put up without them?
Anson Carter scored 30 with the twins, parlayed it into a big deal then was out of the league shortly after. |

Why is Weber in the line up
Why does Higgins play pp
Why does Vey get away with far more then any of the other young guys
Pretty hard to complain about AV with this guy |

You can either play or you can't, if you've gotta put him in against the worst teams then what's the point of having him? Send him down... - LeftCoaster
I'd like to see the kid get a chance to get a game in to build confidence before he is thrown back out to the wolves. |

If you look at the stats, Fehr has been much more consistent than Mathias (he's about a .5 point per game player). There is no way he will agree to be low-balled, as he's usually good for 15+ goals every year. Mathias has only had this year as a measuring stick which I'm sure he and his agent will use to gauge his upcoming salary demands. He's only cracked more than 10 goals twice - the second time being this year.
P.S. Fehr doesn't regularly play with OV and Backstrom. He's used all over the place (which means hes' versatile, something which the jury is still out on as concerns Mathias) |

So the guy proves he can score but takes a paycut because our roster sucks

Yeah, they're doing what teams like to do. Play their elite guys with a mediocre guy and make him look good, so a better player can play on a secondary scoring line. It's what I prefer the Canucks to do with Vrbata and the Sedins, but so far they still lack a legit 2nd line. |

I dont even want to go there.
Its one thing to try and send a message to a young guy. But not in a pivotal game in the season when he has clearly been one of your best players. Regardless of the last 2-3 games, Kenins deserves to be in the line-up.
Trust me. Im as pissed and confused as you.
I can only assume the move is to try and light a fire under Mcmillans ass because head office is trying to prove to the fans that this wasnt a pointless signing.... |

Kenins > McMillan
I think WD wants to make sure Kenins stays hungry and plays physical, he hasn't been flying around and hitting everything in sight as much lately. But I still don't like the move. |

We aren't talking about a paycut. We are talking about not handing out more than he's worth.
Your argument that he's good enough to play with OV and Backstrom doesn't hold much weight. We paid Burrows like a 25-30 goal scorer, how did that work out ? |

Sitting out might put a spark in Kenins. Didn't mcMillan get waived by Sharks. Payback ? |

It has to say something that he struggled to ever crack the top 6 on the weak Panthers teams so that argument kinda goes both ways. He also plays LW along with C so I don't buy that he was buried on a stacked Florida Panthers depth chart.
But again, I'll take Matthias at 3.M over Burrows, Higgins or Fehr at their salaries next year so I see your point. |
