Most defensemen are paid to defend, not score. Tanev does that well. I'm not sure if you've noticed but it's much harder to score if you can't get the puck out of your own end.
Vancouver's biggest problem regarding scoring is they have too many third line players.
Your solution is to overpay for one and sign another one which you insist they can do for $2million.
What the hell makes you think he'll come to Vancouver for $2 million?
If Washington won't offer him that then he's not worth it, considering he plays with Ovie and Backstrom.
My solution is to either put more young blood on the squad or at least sign the 3rd line players we have to third line money, not 3.5 million a year.
I've NEVER felt or said Tanev has that offensive upside, but you don't even know what the hell you're saying so how can you keep track of what I say.
It does bring up another point though, maybe the Canucks should be looking to spend money on a decent PMD rather than another 3rd line scrub. - golfingsince
Once again you are so wrong. Tanev is a # 3 at best. Don't confuse our lack of talent to overpaying a player for what he does moderately well
Tanev is a Dman he has a career high 25 hits which means less than every third game he hits someone. He has a career high 17 points.
Our D core is not very good by any stretch , so if you truly want to stop overpaying players start with the existing group.
What PMD is available ? Stop the Fantasyland crap , of blinking eyes folding arms, and magically we have one. There is no PMD available other than Martin who will cost over 5 mil.

Even if that's true, top 4 Dmen are infinitely more important than bottom 6 wingers.
Again, your solution to improving our poopty D corps is to let the better ones walk. Very similar to improving our top 6 by adding to the bottom 6.
Also, just off the top of my head I can think of this one PMD named Mike Green. Of course, there just might be one out there that's salary is too heavy for the team that has him ala Nick Leddy.
Let me guess, you'd rather have Bryan Allen because he hits.
Its Sheldon, I hate the name as much as you do but lets just live with it. - vancity787
Sorry Bud
I don't hate it at all, I was born Wilfred but also had a nick name at 10 days old, the only people who called me Wilfred were my Uncle Wilf and my teachers and I didn't respond, so my parents registered me under my nick name after grade 3. Name doesn't mean much it's what's inside.

You know who else hits a bunch? Franson.
Want to know why? Because he never has the puck. - golfingsince
Stop being such a Richardwad. Allen will never see the NHL again. Green will cost about 6 mil and no thanks.
If you could get Tanev as a number 3 at 3.5 sure , same as a Matthias re-sign , both have merits .
Bieksa Burrows and Higgins need to go. Give kids like Pedan Biega maybe COrrado and MCCann a chance.
That still leaves more than enough to sign a 3 Rd liner or two seeing we are moving two third liners out with Burrows and Higgins

Tanev is younger than Biega, for what it's worth.
Tanev is remarkably effective at hockey. He's not great offensively, he's not not intimidating, but he's got a calm presence, he's a very strong skater and he's a strong contributor to the Sedin's possession game.
Assuming that we are still in the Sedin era (and we clearly are), support players like Edler, Tanev and Burrows need to be retained.

There's Del Zotto.
In case you hadn't heard, Bieksa and Burrows have NTC's.
There is not a chance in hell that Matthias deserves as much money as Tanev. We are talking a top 4 Dman vs a bottom 6 winger.
Moving two 3rd liners out means we still have about 8 of them, why sign any more ?

Can't wait until Tanev is back in the line up. I'm getting sick and tired of watching the Chinese fire drill that our D-Core has become in the past 4 or 5 games.
