I agree about Transformers. It has some of the most incredible effects but unless you see it on the big screen a lot of that is lost. So what you have left, then, is your typical unoriginal us vs them story which has been done to death. I wouldn't say it's utter garbage, as you have to give at least a few stars for the amazing CGI but over all it's a uninteresting and non-compelling franchise with pretty much mindless storylines (what I loved though, is that Megan Fox, prima dona extraordinaire was booted from the last film!)
P.S for the record, I thought Avatar was brilliant (even though it had similar political/divisive overtones as District 9 - which I also enjoyed regardless) - Zogg
Avatar is another example of a blatant and terrible attempt at "subtle" allegory. South park said it best when they called it "Dances with Smurfs." That aside, I simply found Avatar to be more entertaining and visually appealing
Edit: Also saw Avatar high, thought it was the best movie I'd ever seen |

Possibly... But are you thinking matthias is a one hit wonder as well? I could care less if he, Richardson, Hansen or Higgins are here next year. Same with Sbisa, Edler, Stanton and weber in the back end. - I-own_da-Northwest
I wouldn't pay more then 3rd line money. Not really sure what that is anymore. But probably in line with 2.5 to 3 mill max. If he wants more I would let him walk or sign a short term contract. |

I'm about 10 hours late but I'm pulling back the District 9 discussion
Apartheid allegory was painfully obvious, no attempt at subtlety. As blunt as the Karate Kid remake that simply changed the race/culture of key characters. Instead of blacks in South Africa they give us segregated aliens. I'm sorry but if you want to give the viewer an epiphany you don't make it obvious from the get-go. I may just be biased because I am an aspiring writer and I had very high expectations for that movie, but I wasn;t a fan. Definitely better than Elysium, but still didn't like it at all - bezz44
Star Wars = Nazis and Allies
Alien was pure science fiction... the way it should be. Not a political message masquerading as a plot. The movie was not propaganda... the only kind of movie I respect once the awe of graphics is put aside.
Interesting how important the South African Apartheid message was but I have yet to see a multi million dollar production about life on the Gaza Strip or West Bank. Not likely... Hollywood will always deflect the attention away from Israel and onto the deeds of Europeans. |

Micah, you've been following this team as long as I have, they aren't "becoming" grade A slump busters, it is the cultural identity of this franchise. How many players set NHL records against the Canucks, or ended futile losing streaks, or goalless streaks etc.? - 1970vintage
Obviously, we've been an easy lay for teams needing to bust that nut. But that kind of thing can change. This year, it's been a different story than most. With the injuries we've had, I expected a losing streak. But to wreck the teams that we have and come up short against the lame opponents, it's frustrating, to put it mildly. |

For me, if you are going to have a political message in there, at least make it somewhat difficult to find, don't hammer it at the audience. Most art forms are not meant as simple entertainment pieces but what I like is when you get a unique perspective, which is not something that is in abundance in film... Franchises have taken over |

Considering that for the majority of the planet english is their second language, I think it should be easier to realize. The epiphany should come when you realize whether you agree with the artists world view, or if you disagree with it.
Anyway, the movie touched on themes of racism, pollution, and government oppression. When your art is essentially protesting against this kind of stuff, how are you supposed to be subtle? |

Totally agree, and I blame the "leadership" of the current team for their lack of preparation versus teams they should beat. Hank's comments about taking the Coyotes too lightly reminds me of Naslund admitting the team choked. It's not all on the "C", the coaching staff is also to blame. Imagine if your direct reports came into work on Friday because they thought it would be an easy day, and then you got creamed, and you didn't meet budget because of that. |

If the Chinese controlled Hollywood and mass produced propaganda to fit their own agenda... the West would freak.... funny how it works isnt it?

Dude, the Chinese are infiltrating Hollywood. Disney recently added some huge firm from China as a joint venture partner. Slowly, but surely, their money will start influencing Hollywood.

WD said that when he first came up he was excellent, doing exactly what he was being asked to do, and having great success. He thought that maybe lately Kenins was trying to do too much, and he had gotten away from what was making him successful.
From what I've seen, which admittedly isn't that much, he's been playing pretty well, but I trust what the coach sees over my one good eye. |

So, what you're saying is that it's Vantel's fault. Copy. |
