The question is, have we learned anything, paying anyone because of a career year is a bad idea. - A_SteamingLombardi
Yep. And u pay a guy for what he actually is. Not what he is by default on your team |

I can't believe how many people are praising Nonis because he brilliantly dumped Clarkson for an LTI contract instead.
Let's not remember who signed Clarkson and why a trade like this was needed to dump a player who he recently signed to an enormous contract...

This was 100% ownership helping out their mentally retarded employee |

Possibly... But are you thinking matthias is a one hit wonder as well? I could care less if he, Richardson, Hansen or Higgins are here next year. Same with Sbisa, Edler, Stanton and weber in the back end. |

I would definitely keep Hansen, the guy does it all and you can tell that he's playing with a lot more confidence, which is garnering success. |

Yeah, I like his give a sh** factor but I don't think he brings anything that 100 other bottom 6/ players ready to break into the nhl can't... What's his success rate of breakaways? 7?10? His speed garners opportunities, but his hands scream "4th liner!!!" |

I'm about 10 hours late but I'm pulling back the District 9 discussion
Apartheid allegory was painfully obvious, no attempt at subtlety. As blunt as the Karate Kid remake that simply changed the race/culture of key characters. Instead of blacks in South Africa they give us segregated aliens. I'm sorry but if you want to give the viewer an epiphany you don't make it obvious from the get-go. I may just be biased because I am an aspiring writer and I had very high expectations for that movie, but I wasn;t a fan. Definitely better than Elysium, but still didn't like it at all |

District 9's draw had nothing to do with the story.
That's like proclaiming that Avatar and to a lesser extent transformers sucked due the lack of a compelling "story".
And yes, even with transformers flawless CGI that franchise is and was utter garbage |

I agree about Transformers. It has some of the most incredible effects but unless you see it on the big screen a lot of that is lost. So what you have left, then, is your typical unoriginal us vs them story which has been done to death. I wouldn't say it's utter garbage, as you have to give at least a few stars for the amazing CGI but over all it's a uninteresting and non-compelling franchise with pretty much mindless storylines (what I loved though, is that Megan Fox, prima dona extraordinaire was booted from the last film!)
P.S for the record, I thought Avatar was brilliant (even though it had similar political/divisive overtones as District 9 - which I also enjoyed regardless) |

I think that it depends on what your expectations are going in. I will never enjoy a Transformer movie, for example, unless it's brilliant, because I assume that it is going to be sh!t going in.
Not everything has to be groundbreaking high brow thought provoking masterpieces. Actual original stories, whether they are books or films, are rare and becoming rarer with every original story told. I love when I see something smart or original, but in general, I will (and usually do) settle for well made, or well written, or well told. |

Good points. Not all flicks are supposed to be intellectually mind-blowing and I understand that Transformers is in that sort or vein. I guess for whatever reason I just didn't find the franchise interesting. I think part of it, however, was just as I noted earlier - unless you see it on the big screen, you are losing at least 25-30% of the impact that is the amazing cinematography/CGI.
And I have no problem with respect to spending a couple hours of mindless entertainment. There are a lot of movies which are basically guilty pleasures . But in the end it's that movies/music/art are subjective, which allows for a lot of creativity. |

Meh, if I wanted to see a CGI masterpiece I would watch Avatar. District 9 was billed as a movie that had depth and was more than just your summer blockbuster. That is why I found it so disappointing. Nobody complains about a top notch grilled cheese sandwich that is advertised as a grilled cheese sandwich. However, if someone is selling you on the prime rib steak and you end up with a perfectly acceptable steak sandwich street meal, you are going to complain because it didn't come as advertised |

You gotta admit, she did look good in Daisy Dukes and in the gratuitous super slow-mo shots of her running, essentially bra-less, as everything surrounding her was being blown to bits and pieces.
I read somewhere that Michael Bay made her audition for the film by making her wash his Ferrari; which is exactly what I would do if I were a man in his position |
