Cody Hodgson
A Beau plus blah prospect for Foligno would work for me - homiedclown
Hodgson looks very lazy on the ice to me. Never really liked him. That said, he'd be an upgrade over Bennett right now. |

I'd be mindful of the fact the team completed a trade (Despres) that I don't think the majority of the franchise liked or agreed with. That may have some weight in these comments. |

Nolan is over his head as an NHL coach
He should give his Jack Adams trophy to Hasek
Hodg is ok with the right coach and the right contract but with the Sabres he is not a good fit with this ECHL coach |

Box seats for the Edmonton game on Thursday! Nothing beats the box. The desert cart at intermission is almost as entertaining as the game. |

Bennett deserves another sample size with Malkin, preferably with Chris Kunitz on the left wing. If he doesn't perform then you can switch back to Comeau.
That's What I Was saying:
Perron-Crosby-Hörnqvist
Kunitz-Malkin-Bennett
Winnik-Sutter-Comeau
Spaling-Lapierre-Downie - Barnaby36
I would be extremely happy with these lines. Then BB has absolutely no excuse. Give him 7 games and its put up or shut up. If he cant perform with Geno and Kunitz , CFA is back in and Comeau moves back up to line 2, Downie or Spaling to line 3 and life is ok. |

I have the seats right beside the Penalty box. That beats your box seats... but bring me and my buddy some dessert :D
edit: I can also make the joke, that one of the tickets is a going away present for my best bud, a Reverend out in Dubois, who is seeing Rev Lovejoy's first game back here.
Anyone want to touch that silly irony? |

Corsi Fenwick have become a source of secondary income to those that can't actually write about hockey. Its a major crutch for those who can't think the game themselves. - Grinder47
Or its become a great secondary tool for people who are smart enough to realize that an eye test really isnt as objective as you may think it is. |

(frank) your corsi. Not even a peep about the game tonight. Does anyone remember the days where blogs were about the game etc. and not just corsi and fenwick? - znagle
I wouldnt mind a mix of both honestly. All the graphs get to be a bit much every single day. I dont mind advanced stats and I have even tuned them out.
But at least we have a blog a day to female dog about. Not all teams even get that, so Ill give RW due credit for that, even if they are just different ways of saying Sutter sucks. |

Bennett has done nothing to deserve a chance on the top 2 lines but he has zero chance of succeeding on the 4th line. So yeah I say give him a try him with Malkin and see how it works |

• The Penguins felt comfortable moving Simon Despres for reasons they’d feel very much uncomfortable acknowledging publicly. And not without cause.
Here’s the unvarnished truth, based largely on information offered all too freely after the trade this week: They don’t trust Despres off the ice and, hence, lost trust on it.
His size and skill were obvious, and they’ll continue to be that in Anaheim. They very much saw what you saw on occasion. But seeing positive traits on occasion is one thing, and seeing them consistently another. And when that inconsistency is something they believe is rooted in a general lack of applying one’s self in life, that’s when it becomes too much to take..
And no, I will not get specific on this. Sorry. Other than to say the Penguins got sick and tired of betting on his future.
Suffice it to say that Mike Johnston and Gary Agnew entered this season with Despres completely cleaning his slate. Both men told me as much in a face-to-face meeting we had last August. I brought up Despres and, unlike with every other player, they quickly changed the subject. They had, for whatever reason, no wish to engage in the topic at all. When I later asked why, Johnston explained that they felt it was important, given what they’d already known, to move on and give the kid a fair chance.
Nice piece. I'd rather still have him on our roster though. - Barnaby36
Since the Despres-Lovejoy trade occured, I've said that my main issue isn't the moving of Despres; Its the lack of return for him that gets me.
The Penguins still have a solid D unit going forward w/ Letang, Maatta, Pouliot, Harrington, & Dumoulin. Guess you could add Cole into that mix & Scuderi as well (for better or worse). However, the Pens are still lacking young F's that can grow into a Top-6 role or Top-9 role. If Despres had been swapped for Etem or Smith-Pelly, I'd have no issue with the trade. Still, Despres for Lovejoy just seems like a lateral move that makes them older and more expensive. |

We needed defense though, Hoff is in jeoprady still and trading a D for a forward would have been a bad move. Lovejoy is also a steady top 4 guy on the books for next season as well for only 1.1M which is pennies more than Despres. Who know, maybe if Lovejoy continues to impress this and next year then maybe he gets a 3 year 3M deal and he's off the books at 35 while being a cheaper top 4 guy.
I would have liked to see Despres and Bennett for Lovejoy and one of the forwards though. |

I thought Despres+5th would be worth Lovejoy/Etem. Had we pressed Anaheim's mngmt we'd probably be able to get Etem on the deal. He's not their top prospect anyway. |

Agreed.
BB played his best hockey of the season on a line with Kunitz and Sutter late december.
I think he would thrive with Kunitz and Malkin.
If he doesn't, well. It wasn't supposed to be. |

Apparently MacKinnon scored against us with a broken foot. Out for the season (6-8 weeks) unless they make the playoffs. |

Yeah who knows how it went down. Bennett could have been offered and they weren't intested. The GMs of both sides value them both different than we do so a pick could have been brought up and they could have shot it down. I'm happy with the trade though, I guess I'm being greedy asking for the BB swap for one of their guys |

Despres got a little emotional discussing the trade. Hit him hard.
What does "emotional" mean here?
Did he cry or did he curse the pens staff? |

im sure it came as a surprise, but he should be counting his blessings, hes now living in california, im pretty sure any of us would enjoy that change in scenery right about now...not to mention we very easily couldve traded him to a non-contender, and not only a non-contender but a non-contender in a crappy market, id say he made out pretty well actually
