Matthias is a lifelong Canuck fan, his whole family is over here, he's stoked to be here. Pretty sure he'll be willing to sign a modest deal come summertime.

I think he should return if he fits into the payroll. Happy for him having a good season, it reflects well on him and the club.

Yeah I don't know. Its not like he's had numerous huge contracts. This is his chance to hit it big
- Bieksa#3

I am not sure how much of a raise he is due. I am sure GM's are intrigued by his size and skating but also aware it took him awhile to have such a good showing and must wonder if this career season can be repeated.

Hope we can sign him to 2 years around 3mil per.

I thought he is from Toronto. But I do remember him in an interview early this season saying that this is the most fun he has ever had playing in NHL. He absolutely loves the team, fans and the city. I hope he takes home town discount and stays.
- Linden_4_Capt

Yep.

I think that was earlier in the season, maybe before he took that elbow, something about him being on a team that was competitive and winning, team sitting 2nd in Pacific division.

Lets not forget he was drafted by Detroit. That alone should be worth his weight in gold.

Higgins sucks. If he wasn't a glue guy, good along the boards and a great teammate, he'd be out of the nhl.

Erat-Chipchura-Doan

Rieder-Arcobello-Gagner

Korpikoski-Cunningham-Moss

McGinn-Vitale-Crombeen

Arizona's apparent lineup for tonight, Buffalos lineup was better, there should be no reason we lose this one.

As was mentioned earlier, it isn't really his fault he is miscast, when he is basically a 3rd liner at 3rd liner pay. But I still find it frustrating when he is on the 2nd pp or 2nd line when some guys with higher potential haven't been given the same opportunity.

Yeah, I have a bigger issue with his deployment than I do with the actual player. Not sure why WD continues to trot him out there on the PP and I'd also limit his minutes in situations where the team needs a goal. My reasoning is that he's a good possession player but typically teams trailing in the game tend to when the possession battle anyway, at that point you want to play more of your better shooters and more efficient scorers rather than a guy like Higgins who's more suited to protect a lead.
- Nucker101

his deployment is mystery to me as well but one thing that is a costant is every one of our coaches has loved Higgins(praising him through the worst or times) even when he goes two months without scoring...

Bet Kassian had the Roxy Flu after a fun night out after learning he wasn't traded (E4)

It's hard not to suspect that. See the symptoms...

He doesn't score much but he never takes a night off.

I've also got no problem with Higgins as a 3rd liner. The perennial frustration on these boards has always been his extended looks in the top 6 and PP. The Vey experiment on the top PP was equally mystifying given his lack of production.

Sometimes coaches see or like things that we don't. As Booner mentioned, Higgins seems to be a coach's guy. That said I'd be annoyed if some of our younger guys were ready to make the leap to the big club in camp this summer only to be thwarted because Higgins was taking up a spot.

When looking at these numbers....

#Canucks game-day lines/pairings: 22-33-9/20-27-14/51-13-17/41-53-36/2-5/23-6/18-44.

...my brain slows right down.

So many new numbers to remember.... never had to process this much by looking at starting line ups in previous season. Where's my game guide....?

Same thing happened to me last week. I spent a solid 5 minutes trying to remember who #27 was.

This.

Maybe even a player like Kassian getting a shot on the 2nd line or 2nd pp. Players given an opportunity on the line where they are projected to play or where their skillset belongs. Which sounds similar to what people were saying about Baertschi given a shot in the bottom 6 and not showing well while he previously looked like he belonged in the top6.

But like you said, who knows what the coach sees?

IMO Kenins Horvat and Bonino should play on the 2nd unit. Kenins has the ability to pivot quickly at a decent pace and keep possession of the puck. He also has a quick, even deceptive, release on his shot. That kind of skill deserves to be on the 2nd unit.

Agreed. And Bo's great at finishing/creating around the net and Bonino can snipe if he gets a clean look(he never does because the 2nd unit never creates open space). Our d-men also suck so I'd actually play 4 forwards on both units(Clendening and Edler as point men).

Henrik, Daniel, Vrbata, Bonino, Kassian, Kenins, Horvat and either Matthias/Vey as the forwards.
