Could be worse...Panthers are starting Dan Ellis with a backup 30 games into his pro career...

I don't have a problem with playing Markstrom last night. It showed me he needs protected games. It showed we need Lack.

It was just 1 game behind an aweful D and nerves probably had a lot to do with it. I hope he gets atleast 3 more games to see where we stand with him. if he bombs then let him walk or sign to play in the AHL.

Question is, will the D get any bodies back in the time that he is called up.

This injury secrecy is so frustrating

Two goals were post and in, one was a bad bounce. Not making excuses, but it wasn't like they were awful goals. Third he kicked out a bad rebound, but other than that one, it was just bad luck.

Only one jersey? Must have been a slow night.

It was thrown on the ice at an away game. If it was at home they would have needed the zamboni to clean up all the sweaters.

We have been waiting for it. Well it was a good run while it lasted. Time for this team to get healthy in a hurry.

I will be truthful ,I expected him to flop in the first game just because of hype and nerves. He will be given other chances maybe, if the schedule allows. They are only 3 ahead of 3 teams for a playoff spot. If I am the coach I treat every game as a must win and play my best goalie until that spot is secured. Markstrom may not be given another chance for that reason alone.

Only problem is they are in a crucial playoff race, and excuses don't matter only results do.

It is going to be a challenging sprint to the finish. We aren't in a secure spot and if we see Lack every game down the stretch, there might not be much left in the tank for the post season.

Will Miller be back in time and in game shape?

Tough decisions.

How does a team with one playoff appearance in 10 years start their rebuild in year 10. You mothers must be so proud

Am I the only one who's noticed that the this group of guys on defense seem to move the puck better in transition offense? They're way worse defensively, but call me crazy, I think they're quicker at moving the puck up ice. Maybe it's a coaching adjustment to their breakouts with the injuries, who knows

I agree with this. I don't think Carey Price would have had much of a chance on the first 2 goals. In all honesty the way our D was letting SJ simply ghost into the slot time and again a goalie would have had to have an inspired night to keep them out.

That said, I'm not sure what the urgency was in starting Markstrom last night that it couldn't wait until ARI, which would have let him settle into the league far easier.

Maybe WD was protecting Lack from the inevitable beating the canucks were going to take no matter what goalie was in nets.

He's done that for Miller a few times this season.

I agree, but while Lack was backing up Miller, he was given many of the more challenging opponents, 2nd of b2b's and such. Maybe it is listening to the whole, there are no easy wins stuff we hear after losses to Buffalo, NJ etc.

It sure would have be easier for Markstrom if he was called up and we weren't in a playoff race or it was earlier in the season. But I guess a little pressure is good too.

Yeah I see the logic in what you state but I think just starting his first NHL game in a year is pressure enough. You don't need to damage the guy's confidence straight off the hopper against a team that's been handing us our lunch all season. Just my opinion.

Markstrom has dominated every league he's played in apart from the NHL (thus far). I think he has what it takes but it might be more mental at this point.

Hoping he can put it all together.
