I knew this would be unpopular
I guess I have the patience to wait it out, its been a long time though
I am not looking forward to seeing the same D next year, unbelievably frustrating to watch
Guess maybe one of LSchenn or Grossmann will be gone
But Schultz Amac MDZ Streit as the top 4?
Bottom of the Metro conference again and another top ten pick - Marc D
And having a bunch of young guys in the line up the next year won't be much better |

Exactly, he was warning about the danger of rushing out and signing an average player to a 6 year, 30 million dollar deal. It's why I very much doubt he goes after any high priced UFAs in the offseason. And I 100% agree with his philosophy.
I want to obtain my core players, whenever possible, by drafting and developing them or if need be, and the deal makes sense, making a smart "hockey" trade.
Use free agency to shore up an already solid roster and only add at the deadline when you are looking to try and put a good team over the top, and you've built up enough picks and prospects that you can afford to move a few.
Keep up the good work, Hexy! - BiggE
what if you can get Christian Ehrhoff/P Martin for 6M and move off Amac's 5M hit
Salary is pretty close
Instant improvement |

I think it means that you don't assess a player you signed to a multi year deal based on one season. |

Add Boychuck and keep MacDonald, and it looks even better in my opinion. |

I like Boychuk as a player, and he fits some needs, but I'm not keen on buying at the peak of his value. He's 30+, not the best mover to begin with, and probably really should only be expected to be a 2nd-pairing guy. |

That's half of a usable top 4. Maybe Gudas will even be able to fill a top 4 role. |

you move Amac by throwing in a first round pick
only way to do it
I know everyone will be up in arms about it
but that pick from TBL what is the chance they become an NHL player?
50-50?
You said I will be disappointed.
You were the one saying they were in closet tank mode (probably by default more then by choice as it makes the most sense)
Do you want to see the same 6 defenseman?
Streit Schultz Amac LSchenn MDZ Gudas
you said that guarantees another top ten pick and I agree
Morin and Ghost aren't ready by next October if that is the solution - Marc D
I agree with almost everything you say here except:
1. They aren't dealing that 1st round pick
2. That pick in the early 20s has an excellent chance of being an NHL player. The Flyers have done extremely well picking in that range so I have faith in that pick.
I have to think the whole closet tank mode lasts another season and that disturbs me. That's why I said the best hope is these young D get there faster. If a couple of them can make a positive impact next season the team might have some hope.
That said, when we win the lottery everything changes. |

All things considered, I'd take Boychuk over Martin and Ehrhoff if the price tag is the same.
Lovejoy stinks. That move was puzzling. Only thing I can think of is, watching the 24/7 show, wasn't Lovejoy Crosby's roommate? Maybe Sid wanted him back. |

An early 20s picks like that could easily land you the new best goalie prospect. I think that's around where Vasilievsky and Subban both went. |

The contract term he's going to get is concerning at his age. He's been damned good this year, I don't think he's a #1 dman, but I think he can handle top pairing minutes and situations. I guess we're splitting hairs though. |
