He's a really nice guy. Really down to earth. His family is still here. I could see him not wanting to stay in long island. I predicted before the season that he would come back home as a UFA. Hope I'm right. Doubt its at a discount though

hes not super talented, but he does so many things well that makes him such a good nhl'er.

but overpaying for him, then just rolling with the same core wont do it.
hes played as a 1 there, but nyi added a bunch of depth all over the roster.

we'd need to add another reasonably priced quality defender, get consistent goaltending, make sure our center depth is reasonable etc.
or we're probably only marginally better than we are now replacing petry with boychuk
