This is suppose to be a fantastic draft year with teams wanting to hold on to their first round picks but they are being traded often.
Bergevin must be shaking his head. He either has to play the game of giving away futures or sit back and watch teams around him get better. I think he does something today, don't think he has much choice. - sparky
That remains to be seen... |

They can't even give him away unless they retain half his salary, even then they will get back a cap dump. - LeafMan
I will politely disagree and put this down to your Dion hate. He's useful, and teams are already overpaying. If Brayden Boburn can bring back a 1st, 3rd and roster player then Dion can bring in something decent too, especially if we take a less desireable contract back... |

Disagree, it's fine, those players don't have 6 more years at 7 mil cap hit remaining. Completely different animal. |

Everyone laughed at me for suggesting we didn't get enough for Franson and Santorelli
Still a good trade, but I felt we could've got more - ie. the addition of Santorelli in the trade should've nabbed us an additional 2nd. |

But isn't that a positive? How many teams gave up first rounders for guys who can walk away this summer. At least if I am a GM getting Dion I know I have this guy going into his prime for quite awhile. He not only makes my team better today but also for next year etc. |

Have you watched him play? Last two games he let players have a pass for easy tap ins. Hey, I hope there is a GM that has a major brain cramp today, oh I really hope so. |

I have a feeling Calgary or LA will end up with Phaneuf.
If LA, we'll be taking Mike Richards back for sure & some sort of draft pick / prospect
If CGY, probably Smid or Engelland coming back as salary dump, although they have enough cap space to absorb the contract anyways. |

Expecting a slow day for Leafs. I don't want tea to retain salary even for Dion trade. I think best hope is someone bites on a possible Lupul trade. - Canada Cup
Might be a slow day as far as reporting trades but not because they are not working their butts off trying to make something happen. We all knew going in that are heavy weights are better off being moved at the draft not now. |

Going into his prime? I'm not sure all the GM's don't feel he will spend the majority of that contract past his prime. The Contract is very much the issue. |

Your right but it's because he knows he is a goner. I think GM's know what he can bring to the table.

No way Calgary touches him. Plus Calgary won't spend futures right now. |

Why do teams scout other teams (NHL) level.? Like the Oilers scouting Leafs goaltending?
I could make a fortune by charging a small fee and teams could text me if said player is any good or not. |

If the leafs retrain any bit of salary on dion, then the retun is going to be really really good. |

Yes for the duration of the contract, so for Phaneuf, 6 years. |
