Our record without Clarkson was far better than when we was in the lineup. His "Hitting" was worthless. It resulted in nothing positive.

Buf, Ari, Phi, Car, Cbj, NJ, Dal, Col, Fla... hell, even LA with no Voynov (he'd probably partner well with Doughty).

How many teams carry fighters? You need to roll four lines now. You can't have players like Sill who are only good for 3 minutes of ice time because no one is willing to drop the gloves on a whim anymore. Game's changed.

I am not talking about Clarkson (solely). He was not a true heavyweight anyways. He was supposed to be a guy who could score and fight.

People sometimes get caught up in rankings. It's hard to gauge a players value throughout the league because every team is looking for something a little different.

For example. Imagine a pairing of Phaneuf and Dougie Hamilton in Boston that plays primarily in the O zone and is sheltered by a Chara and Seidenberg line. I think Phaneuf would put up 40 points and be viewed as a damn good defender.

The season before and after the shortened year we were in the playoff positions after 48 games. Then we went in a skid and fell out. Does that not seem more logical than "well, these guys who barely scored points and barely skated were out there in the shortened season, so that must be why we did better!"?

In a 48 game season. We also had strong scoring and solid goaltending.

They had a point, but Edler, Erhoff, HAmhuis ,Salo and Bieksa all had solid years at the same time half a decade ago.
