I think Leafs keep Bernier for a year or two. As far as I heard they aren't sure what they have in him yet and aren't ready to give up but also not tie themselves to him long term

resigning Bernier to anymore than the minimum RFA increase is insane and because "he's so good" he would only stand to improve the team next year.

You still need players to play. You can't rip apart the entire roster to tank. League won't allow it.

Might as well sign Bernier and see what he does. Trade him for more next season.
