Point is, good luck with that.

I'm just pointing out that 3c happens to be an area of weakness. I don't think it was a motivational ploy that Staal's name was linked here. I believe they'd love to reacquire him. I also don't believe last year with Kesler was motivational. I think Shero went down to the wire negotiating for him then grabbed goc in a terrible deal.

I wonder if this has a snowball effect. Maybe now that ANA has more of a skill player than grinder, they may be more interested in Kunitz...

okay, wishful thinking again..but we will take Maroon/Silvferberg/Beleskey + Noessen

- YouMeAndDupuis9

Why move Kunitz? He's still productive for his salary.....I'll take Silverberg in shoot outs but that's all

If this is the case, isn't it absurd that coaching staff and management has to play these games to baby sit this vage? Stories like this make it so evident the kind of team mate and person Sutturd is.
- nbartley9

I mean I'm just speculating...but yea, exactly. If it takes poop like that to get your player to play hard, there's the door.

I'm sure JR would love to reacquire him.

Unfortunately his heir doesn't want to trade him, so unless Pittsburgh offers something ridiculous (which has been known to happen), J.Staal is going nowhere.

That's the funny thing... This fool keeps coming here every week to post the same thing about choking and he's a Blue's fan. Not sure there's another team in the league that has choked more than them. Maybe San Jose...
- madmike71

There are a selection of Blues fans that act awfully high and mighty about all things hockey since they team has become good. It is not enjoyable.

Wow really? I wasn't commenting on the chance we do acquire him. I'm referring to the interest from Pittsburgh. It wasn't a motivational gag for Sutter. They'd just get rid of him. You can keep Staal I don't care I personally wouldn't want him for this team with that cap hit.

Right but asset management is important..if we can save salary on that move and make another move after that...we will be just as good this year, if not better, and better set up for the future as Kunitz continues to decline. But is ANA also up to the cap max? I have no idea.

IF Kunitz plays to his peak and meshes with Malkin, then I'd be more inclined to keep him.

Well, you're right there. JR doesn't operate like that. If he feels the team or a specific player needs a kick in the ass, he either calls the player up to his office or goes down to the locker room himself.

Still won't save this team from a first round exit

You've now said the same poop for the past week now. Come up with something different. Oh and I noticed you didn't come around when the Pens handled the Blues in their own building. Now run off and listen to your poopty music.

A few random thoughts I had on all the trade rumors out there:

Ehrhoff to Dallas for a Top-9 F: Assuming Ehrhoff is willing/wants to waive his NMC clause, I'd strongly consider it based on who the F is. Cole or Hemsky? No way. Nischukin or Ritche? Yes, without a doubt. Undoubtedly the deal was for one of the latter, so that is a hard pass.

Pens acquiring Lupul: Interested, but his health is obviously a concern as he's 31 & his durability is more likely on the down slope.

Pens acquire Wisnewski: I don't hate the idea, but i feel like the cost would be significant compared to simply waiting until the offseason & signing Petry or Ehrhoff as a UFA. Contract would be OK. Just seems stupid to give up significant assets for the guy.

Pens acquire Tlusty: Would love to add him, but would want him as a long-term option instead of just a rental. If it costs a solid prospect like Dumoulin, I say pass & be aggressive this offseason.

Yah, I was a big fan of Sekac too. Looks like a Therrien move. Move skill for bigfastgrit.

Penguins should be sellers.

When 87 & 71 produce multiple points, Pittsburgh can win a hockey game. The team can look good against St. Louis and Florida.

When 87 &71 don't do all of the goal creating, the team is exposed for what it is; shallow, undisciplined, and one dimensional. See: recent losses to Columbus, Detroit. DC.

87 & 71 either combine to average 4ppg in the playoffs or the team loses the game. The rest of the team may as well be young and cheap while the brass look toward a more promising future roster.

Montreal has perhaps four Sekac types, though. They now have one big impact forward with top six skills. I'm not happy about the move.

I think it makes Montreal a tougher team to play against. But I seem to be in the minority. Most people think Anaheim got the better end of the deal.

EDIT: Not too mention, it also gives Montreal about $500,000 in additional cap space. Which might open some other doors for them.

Non-sequitur:

Edmonton, Alberta is considering flooding an 11km route for residents to commute through the city on skates.
