Your point was that we should be sellers because you don't think we can win the cup.

My point was that while we may not be the best team right now, we have the potential to be one of the best. And all it takes is for the team to get hot at the right time.

- thickman1178

I also wish to know, given the current age and relative achievements of the Penguins' core, if getting hot at the right time is good enough for you?

I rather thought that your point was that you were happy that I wasn't the GM of the Penguins because teams who wish to make deep playoff runs don't sell their parts.

My point was that no matter who else is on the team, if the average combined points per game of Sid and Evgeno aren't around 4, the team will lose the hockey game. That's true whether or not the team still has Martin, Or Sutter, or Kunitz, or Ehrhoff as opposed to selling them off and playing Pouliot, Lapierre, Spaling, or Harrington. They won't be any worse and the 2 superstars will have to carry either configuration of the team like pack mules.

- Johnny Wrath

Well yes, my point was also that Im glad youre not the GM because I would like to see us try to make a Cup run.

But while I agree with your second paragraph completely, I still don't get how that makes us sellers? Youre basically saying if only 2 guys are scoring, we wont advance far. That can be said of 29 other teams as well.

I guess youre just being a realist based on what we have seen recently. Star Wars and Green Lantern have taught me that we always need to have hope though! And as a fan, Id like to hold out hope.

I just don't think you can say "meh they just don't have it this year, time to throw in the towel" when we aren't that far off the lead in our division and we do have generational talent.

Getting hot at the right time is enough to win a cup. That's all you need.

For this year anyway.

Oh I see, it's a pejorative stereotype. About my Jeep, my bros, and I scaring your fish off with our obnoxious dogs and trophy wives. We JDs must be ancient pals from our dandy college shocked to see the very borders of social responsibility and evidently a misunderstanding of the spell check feature are visible to the naked eye like the cloud of dust around Pigpen where you adorable fishermen are concerned.

The team has been trying to win the Cup for five years now with a lot of that same supporting cast and getting their asses handed to them. I want to ice some new blood that the team already has while accumulating assets to either draft or trade instead of getting nothing. Not that cap space is 'nothing', mind you.

I don't necessarily call that throwing the towel in; trading a lot of what the team has is not a downgrade and may be considered an upgrade for the fact that certain players with 5 seasons of Penguin playoff failure will be removed and replaced.

Just curious as to which team you think will win the cup since we don't have a chance ?

I don't know where I've written anything that suggests that I don't think the team has a chance. I do, just not a very good one taking the similarities between this season's team and the epic 2012 Penguins into consideration.

I think the St. Louis Blues will be the champions this season. Of course their top seven forwards could be injured in the final week of the regular season again, but I like where they're at in terms of their composure, slotting, dynamism, discipline, and focus.

My Western Dark Horse is Minnesota; East is Montreal. I think the East will probably be represented by Tampa Bay.

I picked Montreal and St. Louis in the SC finals in the preseason. Doubt either will make it honestly though unless Montreal improves in possession and STL is better on special teams. I like Minnesota a lot. Detroit is another underrated team to me.

sorry if I put words in your mouth about the Pens being unable to win. I guess that's just the impression that I get from your posts. I agree St. Louis and Tampa have a good chance at being in the finals but if you look at all teams rosters they have holes. St . Louis has a history of playoff failure, Tampa lacks playoff experience, the Habs rely on Price to much. The best regular seasons rarely win the cup. A recient exception is Chicago during the lockout season. The playoffs have a lot to do with luck (health, matchups, bounces) and getting hot at the right time. Does Pitt win this year? Maybe, maybe not but I wouldn't want to trade this team off and be left wondering " what if "..

Good to hear, Mark Letestu is high on the Pens trade list right now. Boterill apparently personally scouting him tonight. Never wanted him to go. He would be a great replacement for Adams as a pk and 4th liner.

Sad to say, but he'd be an improvement as 3C....

Not sure a direct improvement, but the cap space would allow for another trade to be done. This, two better depth guys for one slightly better depth guy improves the quality of entire team.

Easy! Some guys actually use them for work! And believe it or not, it's not jacked up with Hemi thrown across the windshield, nor does it have an enhanced exhaust with "soot life" bumperstickers or fake balls hanging from the tow hitch. No gun rack either!!! Take your beige Camry and keep your opinions to yourself.

Edit: I do concede a spit cup though.

excuse me, it's a blue Accord, and I will continue to force my opinions upon the unsuspecting public. As an olive branch, I'll offer exceptions to those who use their trucks for work, but not before I side eye you skeptically.

Better than Craig Adams and Sill + he isn't that bad of a player. Good defensively and has protypical bottom six offense. That's more tan the other two can say

I think Adams has one of those too, and that's how he stays on the team.

What? it was an easy joke. And theres no such thing as a swallow cup or I would have gone with that.

Botteril is scouting CBJ and Sabres. You better hope he's scouting Letestu and not Stewart
