I don't have any negativity, haven't said anything about the length of your posts and haven't ripped on you for wanting to have a real hockey conversation. It just seems odd that you spend so much time telling us how educated your opinions are and that we should take you very seriously. If this were the case, wouldn't your opinions stand on their own merit? - Canada Cup
beauty
the next time I see a post that includes "ive played at a high level all my life, I know so and so in the business, I know more about hockey than you" etc etc etc.
im gonna puke.
first of all your words are transparent and have no meaning as anyone can type bs on a message board.
2nd of all, I don't give a fuk, even if you are telling the truth.
3rd of all, its gonna take a reasonable thought or solid post before I laud your knowledge with praise. not just your pee wee hockey resume |

he an elite skater, but hes got some drawbacks. they must be enamored with him more than most.
nick leddy is not the caliber of player, one needs to commit that much term too.
the dollars are too high too, but whatev. one could live that for a couple years.
but that term is silly |

So who wins ?
Pelley-Smith is lbs and he's only 22, I think Montreal got this one.

Meh. One has more size, one has more speed. Pretty lateral move, in my opinion, the Habs getting some more size that they perennially need, and the Ducks getting a little more speed. Sort of a meh, non-impact trade, really. It'll help the clubs a little bit, but overall, a trade that will be mostly forgotten in a couple of days. |

Why is the term silly? He's only 23. And the way defenseman are getting paid these days it's not that bad of a cap hit. |

In a league where 34 year old Brooks Orpik gets a five year 5.5 mil a year contract, I can't see signing a 23 year old to a 7 year deal at a fair cap hit as a bad thing. They now have Hamonic and Leddy for the next 5 years at a combined hit of under 10 mil. Not bad. |

the cap hit is certainly more than hes worth at present.
but im willing to concede he may grow into it or the cap may go up, making it more relative value wise.
but its the term. there was no reason to sign a guy of that caliber to so much term.
hes primarily offence first, has some serious defensive drawbacks etc etc.
but its not about my personal opinion of nick leddy.
7 years is a term you throw at franchise cornerstone guys, and/or guys you feel like gut your team if they walk.
this is not nick leddy.
not only that, but he has a weak year or two offensively, you've saddled yourself with an untradeable contract if he still has 4-5 year left on the deal when youre wanting to move him.
again, a term that you give to guys that you know still possess huge value even if they have a down year. but are truly elite when theyre playing well.
again, this isn't nick leddy. |

a comparison to one of the worst contracts in the game is not a solid counter point
boychuks gonna want 6+ long term too. and hes the more important signing of the two.
either way, the dollars don't really bother me, but they certainly paid more to lock him up for that long through UFA years.
its not prudent in my opinion or they could've found a much better deal imo.

The Yashin buy out comes of their cap this year as does Visnovskys. If you take a look the Islanders are in great shape from a cap perspective. I know his bargaining power is low as an RFA, but I can't see this as a negative at all for them.

I see what you're saying. I think the Islanders feel he has potential to grow and develop. Maybe he's making more than he should be right now, but in a few years I think it'd be a value.
But yes, if he regresses then it becomes a contract that would be hard to move.

I've already stated my deal, with no negotiation. Huberdeau for Kessel even up. Since we are one of a few that can and would take on fat boys salary. I'd give it a go. - PanthersGoal
That deal will only happen in the dreams of unknowledgeable panthers fans. Starting offer is Kessel and Robidas for Huberdeau, Gudbranson, Trochek, 1st 2015. |

Why are the Leafs in a rush to trade Kessel? It's not like he's helping them win... if anything, he's helping them lose. Get the maximum return and fleece a team like Florida. They'll give us a good return, thinking that Kessel will help out their chances. When in reality they are doomed. I can;t wait! |

I bet you’re one of those Leaf fans that insisted “Larry Murphy sucks”, and “Bryan McCabe sucks”, and “Hal Gill is useless, you can’t win with a guy like him”. There is a long line of players that have been run out of Toronto, and gotten screamed at that they suck, only to watch them go on to be successful, contributing members of good teams, sometimes even Stanley Cup winning teams. |
