They air the lottery every year on TSN. Only one they didn't air was 04/05. - tomburton99
Correction: they air the results of it. I should know; I've watched it the last five years.
Daly shows up to the studio with a bunch of envelopes after they've decided behind closed doors which team gets the lottery. In 2005, everyone would have guessed the Penguins got Crosby, and pretty much every result since has been predictable. Even GMs are probably suspicious about the process... you could see Burke [hold back] when someone angered him after they asked him if he should have followed the Pittsburgh model. "Should we ask the league to give us the lottery?"
I agree with people saying that is nothing to gain by winning. But as someone else mentioned, players and management don't think like fans. They are looking for things like character, effort and progress.

Was it predictable when the Devils moved up and got Larsson? And what the hell is that video?

They have to shuffle the deck every now and then. I think that was a statement to the league, "Don't tank". NJ was 30th in the league in December (at one point 12-30-2), replaced their coach, and tried hard to win, ending up 22nd in the league. At that time, you could only move up 5 spots. They didn't want to shift anyone else around, so they thought it would be a good "wildcard" year.
The video was Burke talking about "the Pittsburgh model". Ie, "Ask the league for the lottery pick."

Uhnnn, I click it's and it's people playing video games.
Ryder actually played a few games ago. Took an offensive zone penalty at a really bad time and has sat since, so its not out of left field. As for the ice time, so long as the team is winning games, good luck finding an audience to change things up.
NJ hockey is so boring that if the entire nhl was this bad the league would fold. They sure as hell better trade Jagr because the guy is being killed in Jersey. Not trying to be a knob here but Uncle Lou has collected so much garbage it is hard to watch, Zubrus, Clowe, Ryder, plus injuries waiting to happen with Havlat and Cammalleri with aging old stars like Jagr, Elias and Zidlicky. Then they won't play the young guys regularly like Gelinas, Merrill, Larsson and the way they treated Schneider in his first year, wow, this organization has gone titters up.

Larsson and Merril play 20+ minutes a night. Gelinas is awful defensively so he won't get much time. Also severson was playing the most minutes out of anyone on the team before he was injured.
I am sure this has already been discussed, but the 30 for the 30 about the Russian Red Army team is real interesting on the Lameriello/Fetisov stuff. For those of you who haven't seen it, it's worth the watch.
Of course, I already have respect for Lou, but you watch that type of stuff, and rivalries aside, you respect good people.

Yeah, that was real good. Called of men and miracles. Larionov also has an article up on the player's tribune speaking of the red army team.
