Tanner you need to get Eklund to move the Yotes logo (above) from behind the Flyers to behind the Bruins. I assume he does realize your team is no longer Phoenix... |

I don't need to read it, it's a james tanner blog. it's probably just full of bs about how oel is the greatest dman of all time, oh and how the coyotes are guaranteed to make the playoffs - FLAM3SFAN
So just so we're clear: the blog you didn't read is stupid and the conclusion that you can't fathom or understand since you have not read it, is absurd because you said so?
OK. No wonder internet commenters have such a stellar reputation. |

That last sentence Tanner ......you do that every day? *Sigh....you have much to learn, but one day you will catch on to my teachings and be respected as a blogger and writer. - Jeropotato
That is not true at all. I have - in real life and twitter - a great rep for conversing and tolerating dissenting opinions. DO I go off on people when they're being stupid? For sure. But I also make an effort to listen to other POVs and read and watch things I wouldn't necessarily agree before hand. |

James... We are not calling you an idiot for having a different opinion. We are calling you an idiot for being WRONG. I hate how much CORSI stats are like the effing bible now.
Kopitar is a great player, very underrated i agree. But i'm sick of people misunderstanding the purpose of the Hart. The Hart trophy= Given to the player voted to be most valuable TO HIS TEAM
Without Kopitar LA would struggle a bit yes. But Guys like Toffoli, Carter, Gaborik, Doughty would pick up the slack. And even with Quick having an off year he still has the ability to steal games
Without Rinne, Nashville struggled every night. But they still found ways to win cause they can score 5 goals a night
Without Seguin, Dallas looks to be finding ways to win so far...
Without Carey Price, Montreal would be awful. Near the bottom in the league in Goals for this year. Unless Tokarski could consistantly rock a 2.00 GAA they would be in the McDavid sweeps.
Not saying he is the best player in the league...But he IS the most valuable to HIS TEAM. Which is what the trophy is all about.
Which is why i hate the Norris Trophy lately. Not given to the best all around defenceman anymore. Seems to be given to the D-Man with the most points. Basically a Defencemans version of the Art Ross. I'm sorry but not even a Sens fan could admit that Karlsson is the best D-Man in the league. Most Offensive? Arguably yes...
Maybe they need to have an award for the dman with the most points and call it the Bobby Orr trophy...just a thought |

Far be it from me to agree with a Nuck fan, but I agree on the Norris. Too often offence takes far too much importance. I like the idea of an "Orr" trophy for top scoring D-man and Norris for best "all-around". For my money, Weber is hands-down the best all-around D-man in the league. My guess is all other 29 teams would part with their top D-man for Weber one on one without much question.
As far as your contention on the Hart. You are also correct in it's meaning. But that is irrelevant. Jim's article is titled "League's Best Forward". Not "Who should win the Hart" or "Who is most Valuable". Now, I don't agree with his Kopitar argument, but that is what makes sports so great, we all have our opinion. For this year I may rank them Nash, OV, Kane, as far as best forwards so far....but, I can see how others opinion would differ. But Kopitar....can't see it even after reading the article. Top 10....yup....quite possibly. Best. Nope. |

True. But then he goes into why Kopitar should win the Hart...which is just insane. Easily 5 more deserving candidates...Price, Rinne, Seguin, Nash and either Weber or Tavares . In that Order. |

Except that if you read the thing - which you clearly didn't - you would see the justification at the bottom.
I said, roughly:
- Since there are approximately ten players with similar stats and two who are heads and tails above the competition when it comes to defense, why not favour defense over offense for once when it comes to Hart voting?
In choosing Kopitar you get a player who is close to the top scorers, but massively ahead of them in his overall game. Furthermore, if you factor in how well he has played - rather than just looking at misleading point totals - it becomes an even better choice.
To be honest, I could give a blank whether or not anyone disagrees with me, but it does make me sad that we live in a world where anyone who says anything you don't agree with is automatically an idiot. - James_Tanner
This season he isnt very close. 20 points back of the leader in total and 5v5, 25 goals off the lead, P/60 almost half of the leader, I think thats where a lot of the beef came on this discussion |

Simple answer? They haven't played enough games.
Flip a coin ten times and you might end up 9-1 heads. Flip it a hundred and you're probably around 60-40 heads or tails. Flip it about a million times, and you're gonna be pretty damn close to 50% heads and tails. Obviously a hockey game is more complicated, but if you play enough games, the indicators will eventually correlate with results.
Are there sometimes outliers? Sure. But they don't sustain the same success over larger sample sizes. Ask the reigning Central champion Avalanche how that works. - Sandus
This is the biggest misunderstanding of how probability works. Each coin flip has individual probability. You can not flip an individual coin 100 times at once, you can only do it once in an instance. That means that flipping a coin 100 times will only give you one outcome. You cannot get 50/50 results and 60/40 results. Its hard to fathom, but probability predicts the outcome of every single coin flip individually. You will have the exact same probability of the outcome being 100-0 as the outcome being 50-50. |

Are you 12 years old? Or did you never see a Red Wings game from 1990-2002? - Sandus
ok I'll bite even though your comment sounds like it came from a 12 year old. Are you saying.......a player......on one are all of those teams was better? Maybe Datsuk? Shanahan? Hull? If thats the case then you probably have an argument but I am a Kopitar fan and I see things the way I want to see them........besides I only looked at those guys with disdain .......the way they consistently beat up on the Kings. I was at a couple of those first round series sweeps.....They were too friggen good, Kings needed Kopitar...........See what I did there |
