is it just me or does Gallagher look utterly worn out?
- DoubleDown

He does.

I suggested last night that he needs to be knocked down the line up a couple of lines. Just so he gains some sort of perspective. I know he still goes to the net and all that, but he's mostly non-effective most nights.

Hard to really evaluate since they played at 5 defensemen and even 4 for a while. Didn't had a stable partner, but I guess he did ok in the circumstances.
- stinger67

playing 5 D for a full the full 60 minutes is really tough. it throws everything into chaos. mismatched pairings, increased minutes. add Subban being gone or hobbled half the game, and i think it's really hard to fault Montreal for that game last night. they were outplayed but you have to think that was a factor.

If I was him, I'd also be pretty tired of getting assaulted every game and never being rewarded with a drawn penalty. I'm beginning to wonder if he has to die before someone gets a 2 minute minor.

he looks very slow. he doesn't have the burst he had earlier in the season. i hope the contract doesnt have anything to do with it.

well that's how it is. he's not going to get calls. it's not going to change. he's been told as much. he's got to play through it though.

I think it might be a product of his style of play. It's bound to wear him down at some point. Maybe he just needs a night off every now and again.

Despite a seemingly adept offseason last year, Garth Snow gives Nonis a real run for his money in the "worst GM ever" race.

Snow seems like he's got the GM thing figured out though...

And to his credit, he does. It's just beyond frustrating to watch him get dumped, cross checked, interfered with, held, and apparently it's all within the rulebook because the name on the back of his jersey says "GallagherHockey Play".

Snow had a horrible start but he's improved. Boychuk and Leddy trade were pure genious

Methot was a sign and trade by the sens
- Fredobface

Nope, Methot is here for that whole contract.

But, we have Weircioch or Boro available if the Habs want them. Boro can be had cheaper than Weircioch but PW46 fits into the Habs structure moving forward in my opinion. I can see him going to MTL for a 3rd (conditional 2nd if MTL makes the ECF).

Woah...I wouldn't go that far. Snow sat on his ass all offseason without meaningfully improving his blueline. On the eve of the regular season, Chicago and Boston were both in a cap crunch and unloaded defensemen because of their contracts, taking back a couple of draft picks (Boston) and nobodies (Chicago). They were practically dumped in his lap.

Nothing wrong with letting him sit in the press-box for a night with someone on the coaching staff and watching the game to get a different perspective on what's happening out there and to give him a bit of a rest.

to counter

A) NYI is not exactly a hotspot for UFAs recently
B) the UFA market as is was quite thin (see Robidas, Orpik)
C) i imagine that he had his eye on both players long before those trades. everyone knew that Leddy was going and Boychuck was always a strong possibility. i think he should get full credit for those moves.

that wasn't non-PC. it was flat out racist. but since it was racist against the Chinese i'm OK with it.

yes, Phaneuf is the ideal player that Montreal should add. if he had a contract commensurate with his skill and performance. which he doesn't, because Dave Nonis is, quite possibly, the worst GM the NHL has seen in over a decade.
