I really doubt Bergevin will let go of one of Beaulieu, Tinordi or even Pateryn...because after that, the prospect pool on defense is pretty thin.

The only good news I see from Emelin being injured is that we'll get to see what these young guys can give us if needed.

Didn't watch the game yesterday, how did Pateryn look out there? Usually he's doing smart simple plays out there...

Mr Coach needs to get his team more prepared for the poop teams.

He puts a system in place against the good teams to defend and try capitalize on rare opportunities while relying on Price. I don't like it but whatever... Price is the best player in the NHL

when they play poop teams the system is all out of whack because they are so use to defending but now they are the better team . It's like they are so mind (frank)ed into this defensive shell, they don't know how to react when they don't need to be in it.

It's a good thing that poopty teams don't make the Playoffs, or Montreal would be out in 4 games.

How would the possession-challenged Habs deal with the short term loss of Subban?

this is why i'm opposed to picking up a guy like Polak. Montreal needs players who will tick their possession upwards. a guy like Polak will clear your crease but you're going to spend most of his time on the ice in your own end because he can't contribute to movement up the ice. at their best Montreal moves the puck quickly and efficienctly. if they're going to bring in a dman, bring in a solid top-3 guy who can move the puck. if they're just going to after the Roman Polaks of the league, might as well give Tinordi or Pateryn a shot.

He looked fine to me. Wasn't a standout performance, but he wasn't horrible.

Yeah, I'm not seeing many names floating around that would be an upgrade. Unless Bergevin has something cooking that's off the radar, it's probably better to just stay the course.

At this point, I'm thinking Bergevin is only going for depth.

Hard to really evaluate since they played at 5 defensemen and even 4 for a while. Didn't had a stable partner, but I guess he did ok in the circumstances.

He's in a tough spot, Price is playing lights out and he may want to take advantage of that but it would take a couple of serious upgrades to get them in contention.

So far, in all the games I've seen him play, he's not flash but he's not doing any mistakes either.

Which is more than we can say from other players on this team.

Exactly. And I think he knows Price has a lot of very good years still ahead of him.

I don't think he'll rush the process but if there's a cheap deal to be made that makes sense for more than this playoff run, I think he'll do it.

yes, Phaneuf is the ideal player that Montreal should add. if he had a contract commensurate with his skill and performance. which he doesn't, because Dave Nonis is, quite possibly, the worst GM the NHL has seen in over a decade.

Despite a seemingly adept offseason last year, Garth Snow gives Nonis a real run for his money in the "worst GM ever" race.
