I think I'm the only one here who wants O'Reilly. I wish sutter wasn't a turd sandwich this year and pens could make a nice offer involving sutter, bennett, Harrington for O'Reilly.
- drummer829

And I probably would have taken that deal. It's still not that bad considering the contract situation with him (it's over blown by the media that hes a greedy kid doing this on his own)

Kids been a stud all year, team just can't buy a goal.

Just tossed mitchell out there since he's a useful bottom 6 LW/c and since you guys hate Sutter so much we could do a forward swap, saves you guys over 2m on cap and he has terms left on his current contract

To sweeten the deal we will give you talbot back haha

Throw in McLeod and we have a deal....

The Penguins got 9 goals out of their bottom six in last year's playoffs in 13 games. I'd argue that their bottom six this year is better than last year's.
- hardnosed

It wasn't 9... Sutter played much of the playoffs on a second line.

Must - sure, but it won't. There is no freaking way. I don't think anyone can fix this team with its current lineup plus 1-2 players. They will just get bulldozed over if not in Rd 1, then in Rd 2.
- chimpira

That's fine if that's your opinion, but why? Why do you think that our team is so far past being a contender? If your answer is that our 2 superstars are not playing to their potential I would agree fully with you, but don't you think that can change?

Sutter for Mitchell and Talbot? I don't really want either player the Avs are offering and would probably still do that lol

5 of those came from Sutter who I think everyone is in agreement isn't anywhere near playing how he was playing last year in the playoffs. Now maybe he turns that around again, but I'm not holding my breath.

On paper the bottom 6 this year is better than last year, but really if you stop and think about it, not by a whole lot. Sutter is worse than he was last year, so that is a drop off and a pretty big one. Downie is definitely better than Glass so that is an increase to compensate for the drop off in Sutter. Adams = Adams, so no change there. Bennett = Bennett, so no change there. So really you are looking at Spaling and LaPierre versus Goc and Gibbons. LaPierre and Goc seem to be a wash to me, although LaPierre brings more physicality, but that really isn't going to translate into goals. Spaling is a better all around player than Gibbons, but Gibbons scored 2 of those 9 goals you mentioned. I don't really expect more than that from Spaling, if he had a goal a series, I would be pretty happy.

- PensFan1103

Yeah, I wasn't counting Gibbons' two goals in that total. 5 from Sutter, 2 from Stempniak, 1 from Adams, 1 from Bennett.

And in terms of regular season productivity, Sutter is far ahead of where he was last year. 26 points in 81 games last regular season, 21 points in 55 games so far this year. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Sutter finishes strong and has another strong playoff season this year.

No, things never change. Sutter will always suck, and Adams will always be old.

They sure have not been playing as players you pay $9mil/year for. The days of when I honestly thought that Sid or Geno could take any game over and make a difference are gone.

Hell, I don't even see Sid or anyone yelling on the bench when someone F*CKS up. The post-game interview are mostly doom & glum ... the only jokes and smiles I see are from Flower and Tanger. I want to seem them having fun out there ... every freaking game.

No I wanted ROR as well. Our resident Avs guy and I hashed out a deal that would work, cap and all, but you will get burned alive for trying to bring in a $6M player with contract negotiation issues. So just RUN now, before they get you...

Buffalo would have zero problem retaining as much of his salary as necessary.

Okay, Stewart for 5th round pick, 100% salary retained.

We're only 5pts back of top spot in the East. Sure we put up a lot of those pts at the start of the season but it was basially this same roster that put those pts up. Why can't they do it again?

Yep, McGinn got a little overhyped by the Pens board for some reason, but he definitely would have been a good fit here.

Are Avs surefire sellers yet?

That is correct. Sutter's possession and production numbers this year are the best they have been in Pittsburgh and he still sucks. Which is why I have no confidence in him.

I think they will be in the seller/buyer mode. They need to make changes to the bottom 6 and bottom pairing guys for sure. There are some decent guys in there with McLeod, Mitchell, Talbot but the combo of them all plus with the dead weight guys. It just doesnt work. So moving 1 or 2 of them out to bring in some new blood to try and turn those lines around would be ideal.

Sell off guys like Hejda and Briere as UFAs, do hockey trades of Mitchell, Talbot, Holden
Like trying to snag a guy like Cam Atkinson, targets like that

I haven't seen anything in Sutters game that has me thinking that he'll turn it around. And it isn't like he's more suited for the playoffs. He stays away from the hitting and grinding as much as possible....but I do hope you are right

You're right, it was 8 (Sutter only had one goal with Neal and Juicy). Point remains, 8 goals in 13 games from the bottom six is acceptable production, especially considering that those games where Sutter played up, the team got almost nothing in terms of production from the Goc-centered 3rd line.

I know Stewart will never look good on your fancy charts and graphs, but he does score, he does put up points, and he is not a total liability when he isn't scoring as he will defend his teammates and fight when necessary.

While he isn't ideal, he would be cheap to get and be able to provide what you need on the 3rd line.

- kingcong39

He is a total liability. He is a terrible player that lacks heart.

For a while, I liked the idea of Michael Ryder, just based on his past playoff performances. But with a $3.5 mil cap hit, money has to go out. However, he wasn't exactly fast before, and he's lost a step.

I don't think Sutter is getting moved unfortunately, but he seems like a Lou Lamoriello type of player. Not all that exciting, but decent defensively. And right now, Scott Gomez is their second line center.

So, with that logic:

Sutter for Ryder and a 2nd. Pick can drop down if the Pens make it deep in the playoffs.
