Yeah, he said 2016 pick that isn't the 1st, 2nd tier prospects, or maybe a NHL roster player, maybe. That is really what is in play from the Pens side. The NHL player would have to be one of Sutter, Bennett, Bortuzzo, Downie (who according to Molinari yesterday the organization is down on). Obviously none of those 4 are getting big returns, but packaged with a 2016 pick or 2nd tier prospect could get a 3rd liner.

Yo..

I heard Chris Stewart is available. We'll take a 2nd.

He sucks ass. He truly has negative value. Bad attitude, horrid work ethic ... malcontent. They don't have a price tag of a second rounder.

Trading Downie is such a huge mistake
- dbell646

I don't want you guys to trade downie either. He's an easy late game penalty call.

I hope to the lord this is sarcasm.

If this organization even entertains that idea, I am totally done with them; I will be wearing a Giroux jersey faster than you could imagine.

I know no one wants to hear it but anyone who was thinking we'd legitimately contend for the cup looking at the roster at the begining of this year was deceiving themselves, especially considering the left over poor contracts, the management overhaul and fixing the 5 year shero/bylsmas "mess".

Id rather the Pens not trade for anyone else this deadline unless its for someone on term in the mold of top 9 help or power foward.

I read on I think....spectershockey? That claimed Rutherford would be open to trading Paul Martin or Erhoff for on term top 9 help if he honestly believed they couldnt get out of the first round with the current group. I kind of like that idea.

Other than that, roll with what we have, spend the time restarting contract talks with Erhoff and see what we have come playoff time with this group so next year with our cleaner cap slate we can make good decisions.

Not to mention, Lapierre needs to score MORE than Goc to make the trade fair. Goc is a much better possession player. That trade didn't make sense to me and it is looking less favorable right now. Hopefully Lapierre plays better in the playoffs.

There is no one on that list that serves a purporse or solves the problem. You will be trading away good assets we can't afford to deal for rentals that aren't producers or don't fill or solve a problem.

Briere? Cole? Jagr? Tlusty?

Stewart?

If we don't win the Cup this year or at very least get to the conference final, Geno is gone along with HCMJ and we rebuild. The time is now, there is no next 5 years.

We will never win anything with Sutter on this team end of story.

F Sutter

Sorry Bart, if you truly believe this then you will be in for a rough summer. MJ won't be yanked after one season. Malkin could very well be on the trade block, but this team isn't built to win right now. They are much closer than I'm years past, but still not there.

I'm sure if Rutherford thought the team wouldn't get out of the 1st round he would trade all expiring players of value. But he isn't going to have that opinion unless the team suffers another major injury before the deadline.

Just a question and try not to go completely batpoop crazy on me here but what is the argument against bringing in Jagr? If its price i understand but as a player, noone in the world creates space like him....hell look at what he did for Giroux and Hartnell. Made Hartnell a 30 goal scorer. On this team he doesnt need to be a 20 minute guy but still remains a threat anytime hes on the ice.

not in the least... he has scored the occasional goal... but otherwise he has been an absolute liability. leads league in PIMS... certainly dosnt disuade anyone from taking liberties, example ovetchkin. Im not adamant they should drop a half-decent 4th liner at a reasonable price, despite his negatice traits, but if it was in a package for a replacement, less damaging winger... hell yes a million times

look out pittsburgh PD

I don't have a problem with that. Letange-Despres Pouliot-Dumo Scuderi-Bortz and let it ride. F it. The next five years has more of a chance then this season. Plus, it allows for space to resign Perron.
- usethe1-2-2

I partially agree with this. WHEN are we going to ride our coveted d prospects into the future... we have these "valuable d men" but don't put them in our line up. and have 9.5 million tied up in martin and erhoff when we could have 1.9 million with two of our "stud" prospects.

Trade both at the deadline for legit 2nd and 3rd line forwards and a stop gap d-man like polak, keep pouliot up (who is looking like he can be better than both martin/erhoff offensively in the near term), and bring dumo up.

And then cross our fingers. "F it." We're not doing much this year with 1 or 2 mediocre additions anyway. Lets get the younger D in on the party and finally fill out our top 3 lines.

Cap space, asking price, old as hell and has to eventually slow down which could be any day now. Also his formerly wanting top 6 minutes and PP time, not fully believing that he is over that desire.

Sutter and Bennett for Kassian and Matthias seems like fair value on the surface. dont feel like looking up the cap/contract ramifications.

Jagr is a great possession player and probably would be of use to most any team. However, his salary is prohibitively expensive for the Pens' cap, he can't play the half board on the PP (87&71 prefer to play there), there isn't really an opening on the wing for him in the top 6, and he would probably be underutilized on the 3rd line. Even though Malkin said he could play with him, I'm not so sure since both like carrying the puck a lot. Only way I want Jagr (along with the others mentioned in this article) is if Sutter is shipped out.

Cap space would shed us 700K... Those two are 3.5 mil combined, Sutter and Bennett 4.2 mil.

I think what is lost on all the analytics is two things... one of which RW mentions, and that is luck. Lots of luck needed to make it through 4 brutal rounds of playoffs.

The other is team chemistry. A couple years ago, Murray, Iginla and Morrow were brought in to win a cup. I think the Pens had TOO MUCH talent that year, and with such talented players playing out of position, there was absolutely no team chemistry as a result. The muckers and grinders... Vitale, Kennedy, etc... who had worked so hard to build a great season... were in the press box for the entire playoffs, and it was obvious in watching that there was no team chemistry whatsoever with this new group. And well, no luck either.

This team is 100% built to win now, fantastic goalie, 2 of the greatest players in the world, A Norris candidate, 2 very effective snipers, 3 ground and pound gritty forwards (2 of which that can score), and 2 young D-men that are getting better each game. This team must win now.
