Ok so the breaking point was last night, Sid dropped them; then he couldn't make a pass, he iced the puck, he missed the net on a shot by 8 feet. The team has cracked, I expect a move to be made today, a Recchi/Tocchet type of deal. I would not be surprised at all if we move Kuni, because I feel like that would be the biggest blow to the team. If I were Good Ole JR I would tear down anything that makes Sid comfortable, the whole rituals and obsessive BS is not working for this team, besides Sutter that could be what is destroying this team.

I agree Kunitz is he obvious move. They just seem really uninspired and I'm not sure why but I'm sure it leads back to Sutter |

Why would you want him? He's a terrible fit for the system and can't move the puck at all. Scuderi is already on the roster, don't need anymore anchors. - jfkst1
He can actually move the puck. On top of this he lays the body and blocks shots like there's no tomorrow. The back end needs to be a little more rugged in my opinion. The forwards will start scoring again. They're too good not to. They're in a slump and it's better to be snake bitten now, than say, the Eastern Conference Finals vs the Bruins. |

At this point, the Pens aren't even fun to watch. 87 gets in a fight and inspires no body, just lazy play. Tickets aren't cheap, I wouldn't waste money on this junk anymore. |

I was a little shocked to see Kuni out on that last power play over Perron |

I find it funny that over the last few seasons, the three players who fans complained about the most were Fleury, Letang and Malkin.
Those guys are the only reasons that this team is in playoff contention right now. - rival22
Crosby 58 points
Malkin 53 points
Same number of games
I think Crosby is still helping the team win bud. |

Well said and mostly true.
I'd throw Adams on that list as well |

GMJR has made every trade/announcement on a Friday. Doubt we see a Recchi/Tocchet trade but I would love if Tocchet was fired.

I'd take a Recchi/Tocchet swap right now. Maybe Recchi can get through to the PP

I don't get the Tocchet hate. The power play stinks but he's also the guy who had it clicking at 40%. |

Probably because the team doesn't have a physical defensive shutdown 3C, which would be fine, except for the fact that he is also scores like a 4th liner too. I like what Trotz does with his 3rd line and puts them in the defensive shutdown role. Can't do that with Sutter cause he is soft.

I wouldn't want Polak unless it was a 1 for 1 trade with Scuderi. |

Agreed. If Hornqvist isn't moved with Sid before the season even ends I will lose it. I understand MJ wants each line with a good 2 pair, but maybe try Perron with Geno and move Hornqvist back with Sid and Kunitz? - znagle
I want Perron, Sid, and Horny. No reason that crew shouldn't crush it. You have a grinder, a go to the net guy, and a sniper.
Whats the point of trying to acquire top 6 wingers if your best player cant mesh with them at all? He failed to mesh with anyone other than Kunitz, Duper, Guerin a bit, and Hossa a bit. Hossa loved him so much, he left town and signed a smaller $ deal to play for Chicago! |

Sid's been held scoreless in a large # of games this year. I wonder how many Malkin has been held scoreless in? |

Yeah, exactly. Polak (and those type of dmen) are not good fits for a system where the team wants dmen to be mobile and move the puck. You can fault the system if you want, but you are jamming a square peg into a round hole. |

Hossa knew his deal wouldn't work in Pitt long term. Theres no way they could resign Malkin, Orpik to ice a solid team so he went to Detroit for a yr. To be fair he was right, Pens were not that great that season until they fired Therrian and traded for Kunitz. |

Baseball season is approaching us. Strange thing to say for a Pirate fan. After 22 years of frustration, we have something to look forward to after another disappointing play-off season in Pittsburgh for hockey. We are a baseball city now ... catch the fever.

I certainly dont think 87 or 71 are the problem and I try my hardest not to be a reactionary doomsday-er. But I am dumfounded by Sid's game lately. The best player in the world continuously throws blind passes to the other team like I would do in my rec hockey league. He wiffed on some shots and has been reluctant to shoot. But I'm more worried about his passing...which is usually one of his biggest strengths...and we have a pretty large sample size now. It seems like he is terrified of getting hit so he just gets rid of the puck.

So, I think that backs up with what most of us have seen this year...
71 has been more consistent and has had a bigger impact on the season than 87.
And he's done it with crappier wingers riding along his side. |

We can't score a goal to save our life, so you want a not that good defenseman and a third line winger that doesn't score goals. Don't get it.
