I find myself thinking about this sometimes. Could you imagine that first line? I feel those two could learn to play together in 10 years..

I don't think we'd have gotten Kunitz though... but we MIGHT have kept Matt Cooke

It is hypocritical that so many dismiss regular season success when the Pens fail in the postseason and now want to make wholesale changes based on relative lack of regular season success. Last year two lower seeds made the SC finals and that seems completely lost on everyone.
- jfkst1

I believe the goal of the 82 game season is as follows (in no particular order):

1. Win just enough games to qualify for the playoffs
2. Figure out what you have and don't have personnel wise. Adjust by deadline day.
3. Figure out what line combos work, which ones don't
4. Figure out your foxhole guys. Who can you win with? Who are the p*ssies.
5. Work it as best you can so your players are as healthy as can be come tax day
6. Entertain your fan base

I think the part in bold is incorrect. No one wants change because they are struggling in this regular season. Its because they know this team, presently constructed, isn't going anywhere.

Wish we could say the same about 87 and 71.

Sid's just a quirky dude to play with IMO. He wants a certain type of guy riding shotgun.

I don't get the Horny thing. Horny is the perfect line mate for him. Dish and drive and create space.

I live in Atlantic City, I used to live in Pittsburgh; that's my home town. We have a nickname in ATLANTIC CITY for MAF its, " cheese puff"; it snot just me that calls him that. Its also the guy that looks back at me in the bathroom when I brush my teeth, we high five and naked ass bump. I make a lot of money though, bring your money to Atlantic City; I will gladly give it to my mother and sister and they will work for you!! Im not really sure what they do but one thing I do know is that they both call MAF "Afro Puff"; its not just them though there is a homeless guy that lives in ATLANTIC CITY he likes to bet on hockey games when he finds enough change in the street to place a bet, he also calls MAF that. Sometime when I paint my face black and run around like an Indian in ATLANTIC CITY I call MAF "Puff Daddy" that's just to mix it up a bit; but its not only me that calls him that its also the strange bugs that live in my underwear. I LIVE IN ATLANTIC CITY, but I used to live in Pittsburgh my home town, I am 86 years old, I can really assess hockey very well; I technically cant see the TV per say but I know its there. I call MAF " Puff the Magic Dragon" Its not only me that calls him that. I live in ATLANTIC CITY, did I mention I live in ATLANTIC CITY; its not only me that calls it that; people actually thought it was a good idea because its a CITY by the ATLANTIC.

Can anyone please explain why our record is so successful when both 87 and 71 are out of the lineup the same game? Fact is we are more attention to detail when those guys are out of the lineup. The glaring mistakes aren't there. Food for thought. That isn't a plea to trade both, but I find it fascinating how successful we are when they aren't in the lineup.

Btw...just between us...I'm loving this. This is what I was wishing for at the beginning of the year. Give me some adversity. Make this team fight to survive and realize they cant just go out there, skate around, and be given success.

I love that HCMJ is tinkering. I like that he split up 87 and 71 on the PP for at least a bit. He had the balls to try something. I like that DP is still playing, working through his mistakes. I like the line tinkering. That's what the regular season is for!! F another meaningless Metrosexual Title. Figure s*it out from Oct-Apr, win just enough to get in, know what works and what doesn't, and put it all together in April-June.

This team has needed some humble pie for along time now. I hope they keep losing and have to fight for that 8th WC spot. At that point, they either sink or swim.

- 87_71_11_29

This is how I feel too. The Pens have coasted into the playoffs the last 5 years winning games on talent, not hard work, only to face teams that have been fighting for their lives for weeks just to make it into the playoffs.

Players like Downie, Comeau and Lapierre were brought in for the playoffs, not to win the Metrosexual Title or Presidents trophy. They were brought in for the real season.

F the regular season.

I find it funny that over the last few seasons, the three players who fans complained about the most were Fleury, Letang and Malkin.

Those guys are the only reasons that this team is in playoff contention right now.

I agree... I said last night on Twitter that I was glad the Pens were losing games like this instead of lucking out wins that hide problems.

The Ducks have lost 5 of their last 6, the Kings were out of the playoff picture just a few weeks ago and have now won 6 in a row and the Blackhawks were below .500 in January. The Caps and Rangers stunk the beginning of the season.

It's only February.

Agreed. If Hornqvist isn't moved with Sid before the season even ends I will lose it. I understand MJ wants each line with a good 2 pair, but maybe try Perron with Geno and move Hornqvist back with Sid and Kunitz?

I still have a huge issue with Sid having to fight Duby. I get it we are all men however I'd be so ashamed of myself if I was on that team and watched that. He has been abusing Crosby for about a year now and no one steps up. He's paid 9 mil and as much as he struggled last season kiss a chance at a cup goodbye if he breaks his hand or gets a concussion. Bortz Downie Sill Despres should have fought Duby each time we faced him not leave it up to sid. I respect him taking care of his business but I never want see 87/58/71 dropping the gloves.

Ok so the breaking point was last night, Sid dropped them; then he couldn't make a pass, he iced the puck, he missed the net on a shot by 8 feet. The team has cracked, I expect a move to be made today, a Recchi/Tocchet type of deal. I would not be surprised at all if we move Kuni, because I feel like that would be the biggest blow to the team. If I were Good Ole JR I would tear down anything that makes Sid comfortable, the whole rituals and obsessive BS is not working for this team, besides Sutter that could be what is destroying this team.

Why would you want him? He's a terrible fit for the system and can't move the puck at all. Scuderi is already on the roster, don't need anymore anchors.

When's the last time we had a player target and make an opposing star miserable? Last I can remember is Bortz on Jagr.....he was suspended and hasn't played a physical game since.

Our players get abused because other teams know they can get away with it. Dubinsky should never play another game against the Pens without spending the entire game looking over his shoulder after the abuse he laid on Sid last year.
