If you round up, but close enough I guess to make your argument seem better.

Had they LTIR him right away, he'd be availble to return soon, and these updates would be relevant for the return... But I don't think you can after the fact LTIR someone?
- Guile

yeah you don't have to put the player on LTIR right away. In some circumstances like Erhoff you don't know how long they'll be out

I'm pretty sure you can use LTIR retroactively.

Yes, you can put someone on LTIR retroactive to the last time they played, which for Ehrhoff was Jan 28 against Washington. The 10th game since then would be tonight's game against Columbus, so he would not be eligible to return tonight, yet it has been a topic of conversation whether he would be ready to go or not for the past 2 days, so that tells me he wasn't on LTIR.
- PensFan1103

Ah... well, since he is not playing tonight to my knowledge, we can now get some more cap relief with his LTIR... which makes more moves possible and such.

7 goals in 28 games equates to 21 in an 82 game season.

Not bad for $3.3 mil.

- hardnosed

It extrapolates out to a 32 point regular season. That is a terrible use of a $3.3m cap hit player that also isn't physical or good defensively.

But he looks good about every 20 games coming down the right side and putting 1 home

How? I don't mean to harp on anyone, but people keep saying this, but the Pens gain nothing from him being out another week or two. SO for those of you who keep saying this, please explain how this is possible.

I have already explained how this is not possible because you only have LTIR relief while a player is on LTIR and you lose it the second they come off, so if Ehrhoff was on LTIR and he came off today his full LTIR relief is gone. If he came off next week, his full LTIR relief is still gone. You don't bank any money while a player is on LTIR.

Brandon Sutter proves that coming from the right family will always mean more than hard work, character, and natural ability.

That's how I understood it as well. I thought that was how we ended up with all that cap space 2 years ago...sid, malkin and letang missed extended periods

You have to make the deal while he is on LTIR if I am not mistaken, and then that bonus space is added to our new max for this season?

Sad, but true
I'm starting to think now that i'd like the Pens to just stand pat unless a really good deal comes our way, take a shot with what we have, and then trade Sutter at the draft for picks/prospect and throw the cap savings from Martin/Ehrhoff at Soderberg. Though I doubt he leaves the Bruins :/

He has 11 goals in 55 games this year. That "equates" to 16 goals in 82 games. Is that also not bad?
- chimpira

16 goals from a third line center who has seen a massive shuffle in terms of role and linemates? It's not ideal, but it's also not bad.

I'm not sure the Bruins can afford him. Pretty sure the Bruins are one of the teams completely screwed if the cap doesn't go up more than expected. Can't imagine he'd cost much more than Blackhole Sutter and obviously he would be a huge upgrade.

They sure have not been playing as players you pay $9mil/year for. The days of when I honestly thought that Sid or Geno could take any game over and make a difference are gone.

Hell, I don't even see Sid or anyone yelling on the bench when someone F*CKS up. The post-game interview are mostly doom & glum ... the only jokes and smiles I see are from Flower and Tanger. I want to seem them having fun out there ... every freaking game.

He's good on the PK but isn't good defensively 5 on5. On the Pk it's about getting your stick and body in lanes, where 5 on 5 it more about winning board battles and protecting the puck
