Trade some of the defensemen away for round picks and bring up Subban and Pedan next year

Would you guys trade Matthias for a 2nd if he's demanding something like 2.5M or 3M per over 3 years on his next deal?
- Nucker101

I don't really want him back. Higgins being gone gives Kenins a spot. Richy being gone gives McCann a spot. Mathias being gone leaves room for one of Gaunce, Jensen or a top 6 ufa.

Interesting for sure. Subban probably won't be ready next year. Sanguinetti is starting to find his offensive game. Pedan is an interesting one . We are almost getting close to the point where we can finish Bieksa's and Hamhuis's contracts

Subban certainly isn't close to ready. Better chance of McNally or Hutton being ready. None of these 3 are signed btw

Sanguinetti will never be an NHL player IMO. Kid wasn't a project he was a Jr dynamo.

And I'd bet anything that none start next year with the Canucks. Pedan might replace Sbisa since he's waiver-elgible.

How deep is the draft next year? Sounds like tanking for McDavid a year too late.

Tomorrow I will have a blood test , urine sample , and stool sample. Tonight I am going to have corn , eggs , and beer for dinner topped with a full Jalapeño. I bet they won't forget me next time

We have 2 cats and I would trade them both for a dog in a second but we live in a condo and a dog needs a yard.
- CubanBuffet

I disagree. When I first got my dog, I lived in an apartment in Downtown Vancouver. Now I live in a condo on White Beach. A dog doesn't need a yard; it just needs an owner that is willing to exercise them properly. Rain or Shine. Trust me, I have a Hungarian Vizsla which is one of them most energetic dogs out there.

This overhaul is a bit drastic. Kenins is exciting but has only been around for a handful of games, not someone who has earned a fulltime roster spot yet. Likewise McCann hasnt even attended an NHL training camp.

I get the full tank/rookie mentality Canucks fans want but the team is better suited to follow Detroit's model of developing players and being competitive than Buffalo and Edmonton ever were. Holding back Nyquist and Tatar for Cleary and Bertuzzi seems to have worked out pretty well for them and their playoff streak...

I have a Norwegian Elkhound. Which is a Nordic dog and is said to be the original domestic dog breed. He spends most of the time we are at work, outside. I also have a 37 lb Boston terrier

McCanns game is very good. Much like Horvat his 2 way game is great. Kid can fly as well.

Islanders are going all in this year. Players like Dorsett will provide the edge they need in the playoffs. If it makes you feel Better then swtich Higgins with Mathias and add a pick. Nelson is stuck there behind a deep set of centers and with Ho Sang coming up they will need to make space. Ho Sang is more suited for the 3lc role that leaves Jt at 1LC Grabo at 2, Baily at 3 and Ho Sang at 4lc for next year.
- Linden_4_Capt

Lots of nice kids not in the bigs yet to target on the islanders. Bit I agree they're all in

.

I'm not a cat person either, but I do have a dog. It is my belief dogs are much more loyal pets. If a dog owner were to die with nobody around; a dog will protect the body. If the same thing were to happen with a cat owner; the cat will start to eat the body once it gets hungry. Pretty telling attributes if you ask me....

- PetrolSexual

I really don't see why cats are still seen as a viable pet when there is dogs of a similar size

Benning seems to like guys with speed and a dangerous shot. McCann has a nice wrist shot. Needs to put on some muscle though.

Yes, he was very mediocre last season and surprise surprise he has come on late as he is a pending UFA. See you later Mattias. Or as Burke would say, I'll drive him to the airport.

You guys got me thinking about Team Development Systems.

Can it really be that difficult to set up a development system that actually develops young players? With the amount of hockey knowledge out there you would think that putting a plan together wouldn't be very hard.

Let's see if we can come up with a plan ourselves (and we don't know poop).

1. Respected, experienced, and stable management team

2. Draft players that have the skill set that compliments team philosophy

3. Draft players that have opportunities to ‘climb the ladder’ (meaning don’t overdraft one particular position so positional log jams are created)

4. Pro club develops good relationships with junior clubs with open lines of communication

5. Pro club develops good relationship with national team organizers (lobby like hell to get your rookies invited to camps)

6. Pro club may try to position rookies on junior teams that have good reputations for teaching and development (and winning)

7. Own your own minor league team

8. Pro club ensures that coaching staff at minor league shares same development philosophy and playing style as big club

9. Constant communication between rookies and pro club (keep everyone on the radar)

10. Set up camps and instructional sessions for developing players in off season

11. Let players develop in junior and minor league as long as possible without damaging psyche

12. When called up, place them in positions to succeed and a long enough leash to allow them to lean at the pro level and not just worry about making mistakes

What else am I missing?

- bloatedmosquito

I would have someone who actually travels around the country(s) visiting your drafted prospects, checking in with their coach on what types of goals they set for themselves. While you're there, chat with un-drafted prospects and get to know them - provided this doesn't contravene some tampering rules...

Dogs will eat it as well, hell, they eat other dogs shlt.
- A_SteamingLombardi

Happened up North not that long ago where the owner died and the dogs ate him/her.

PS I am a dog Person so not dissing. (American Staffy) I Hate cats, Snobby little things that do me no good.... my dog is cuddlier and likes to play fetch and swim and tug a war. Really what does a cat do.

I don't doubt that he will be given a shot next camp regardless of who's back, but this is my worry. I would rather the Canucks make sure the young guns have the muscle to play against the heavy teams in the west. There are lists of good prospects that didn't turn out because they physically weren't ready for the NHL grind

Added 5lbs last summer. He'll be ready. Let him have Horvat role from this yr.
