Yeah... that's absurd. Trading Letang is like telling LA to trade Doughty... or Montreal to trade Subban... - j.boyd919
It would be more like LA trading Jack Johnson or Chicago trading Brian Campbell. |

Dear HCMJ... try the 3rd line as follows....
Sutter - Spaling - Bennett
You've freaking tried every other line combo possible except Spaling as a center. He was reported to be able to play center, and to be a pressuring chip to drive down Sutter's negotiating price. - Guile
Nooooooo.
Downie - Spaling - Bennett
Downie belongs on our 3rd line more than Sutter does. |

Hardly, I would say Letang is far closer to Doughty and Subban than Johnson or Campbell in comparison. |

In typical fashion, at the worst time and already down a man, lays out a ridiculous slashing penalty which leads to the game winning PPG. Also is on the PP which is on a wicked 0-18 run.
Guess who failed to notice that the Penguins were in the midst of a line change and jumped into the neutral zone, allowing Ovie to walk in alone when the puck was turned over? With less than two minutes left in the first period? Kris Letang. - Johnny Wrath
This was all PaulMart. Tanger did jump ahead into the play but if Martin was paying attention, he never should have left the ice. |

That OV goal was on Bennett. After Adams made a hit a lost his stick (unreal !!!) Bennett tried to make a play on the puck to get a rush. He should have chipped the puck out and got off the ice since he isn't a penalty killer - willi
Are you serious? That wasnt on Bennett! The dude thought he had a chance at a breakaway. You ALWAYS go for that if you have the chance.
That goal was completely on PM or Tanger depending on how you want to see it. To me, PM shouldnt have changed until the puck was further up ice. |

Letang's return would be one good roster dman with a high hit, a good prospect, and a late 1st. No one is giving up major assets on a guy with a heart defect. I'm also curious how he is being misused in Johnston's system as he is a legit Norris candidate this year. - jfkst1
He just hates him the way NH hates Duper, Sammy hates Bennett, and pretty much everyone hates Scuds/Sutter. |

Seriously? Norris trophy nominated a few years ago and probably will be again this year and youre comparing him to Jack Johnson?
Stop drinking the haterade man. Letang is a good player whether you want to believe it or not. His numbers dont lie.
Well except his birth certificate. Word is hes originally from the DR and not Canada. He could be in his 50's for all we know. |

That goal was all on Bennett.. make the smart play and dump the puck... you're not beating ovi in a foot race anyhow. |

Yeah youre right. Why would you expect the 3 other players on the ice to back you up so you can try to score a goal. Stupid rookie. |

What this team needs is a Captain! Do we have anyone like that? Someone who can carry the team on his back. Let me check ... nope. |

Seriously? How many times does Ovechkin push himself to catch somebody from behind? I mean we have all seen the controller disconnected gif, right?? The puck went right to Ovechkin because he was behind the play clearly wasn't moving fast back towards his own end, otherwise he would not have been able to turn up ice as fast as he did. I understand a lot of criticism of Bennett, but the people trying to make Bennett the scapegoat on that play I just don't get. |

You're on the PK. You don't go for the breakaway unless your 100% sure. Dump it and get off....in Bennett's defense he isn't normally out there on the PK but still should have known better

My point is that Campbell was a very good offensive D and had the lone assist on Patrick Kane's OT Cup winner, then they traded him to Florida to address other needs on the team. I think they were better off for it. The trade was heavily criticized at the time.
Same story with Jack. He was traded to address team needs and they were just fine, as the Kings had more capable PP players and defenders who could accommodate the missing minutes.

Sure. We have seen the disconnected gif, but we've seen Sid do it too. Doesn't mean he's not fast. Bennett should have done the smart play and dumped and got off the ice. If people are female doging about the pens not shooting on the power play (the simple play) the same goes for Bennett on that.. on a PK... you dump and change.

You have to remember ownership has a say in this team.Dealing off assets that may get you 1 round deeper is a big hit to the pocket book. - willi
Our scouts suck at drafting according to most of the posters anyway, what good does stockpiling picks do? Even a first round pick gives you a 50% of getting a really good player (who will likely take a few years to develop). 25% of a Joe Morrow who looks good but never makes the transition to the NHL. 25% chance of a Esposito who is pure bust. And a 100% chance that someone better gets taken after your pick and the fans will female dog forever
Now, I'm not saying trading all your picks away. It's best to at least increase your odds of drafting a gem. But I can definitely see why taking the proven NHL player who can step in right away is attractive to a contender.
I trade that first round pick all day and twice on Sundays for a 2 years of David Perron at a killer bargain. No way in hell do I trade the 2nd round pick for a few months of Winnik. |

Also, just watched HCMJ off-day interview. He is just as stubborn (or brainwashed) as Disco Dan was about keeping Kunitz on Sid's line while Kunitz just can't cut the mustard on the top 2 lines any more. He still talks about liking the "chemistry" of Sid, Perron, and Kuni and the "chemistry" of Geno, Horny and Comeau that is getting back to where it should be after the injuries. Geez ... givee me a fraking break. Everyone, from "most prolific PGH" beat writers to the bandwagon fans have suggested playing Hornqvist on top line. Why isn't it happening?
I am just glad I am not the one paying this clown's salary ... also, why does Tocchet still have a job? |

But the penguins do not have capable ddefenders to take over for Letang. If you think Maatta, Pouliot, Depres, and company can take over for Letang, you are sadly mistaken. There are people, even outside of Pitts that see Letang is one of the top dmen in the league right now. |

Agree. It's not a crime to be an outstanding two way defenseman at even strength.
Let Pouliot run the PP. Letang's excellence in all situations (minus PP) make him well worth his contract. |
