hah! Yeah that would be a dumb idea for both players. - kgrpitt
Advantage = Pens. Yeah, Crosby leaves the ice for 5 mins but we still have Geno. Let's see how the Caps play without their cherry picking, one trick pony for 5 minutes |

The stars get more of a free pass. More leniency. Ovi is a star, he just has to jusitfy his actions with "I was going for a shot" and he's off clean. - znagle
I agree with you that there's very little if any accountability for the actions of a star player and that's a joke, but hoping someone two hands him in the jaw is an infantile reaction |

He's talking about the people who have been going, "OMG LET'S CALL HIM CINDY BECAUSE THAT'S A GIRL'S NAME THAT IS SIMILAR TO HIS FIRST NAME!!!" that's been going on for years and fueled by a typo given to some printing press.
It's old. Dude's name is Sidney. |

It was just as stupid as Downie punching Jack Hillen for no apparent reason right in front of the ref. - Cptmjl

I'm not sure which elbow you're referring to as there have been...well, let's just say "multiple occasions" I was talking about.
But, back to the topic, I agree. Although I didn't like it, Claude Giroux deserved his suspension in the 2012 playoffs. Shea Weber, as much as I love him, should have been suspended for his Zetterberg head smash. Malkin, Subban, and Ovechkin should have had multiple suspensions by now. Marchand, Lucic, and Neal should be on about their 10th. - jmatchett383
Agreed.

So a loss to the Caps brings out....
Philly fans telling Pens fans their team is dirty and to "know history"? Ignoring the last 40 years of Philly hockey..
Islanders fans who realized their team is relevant after 30 years and may reach the 2nd round??
Yikes. - stowerkraut
Theres no denying what the Flyers franchise WAS. The 70s and 80s were different eras. There was no protection of any kind except gooning on the ice. And i havent saw any post stating the Penguins are a dirty team, but hey take that for what you will. |

Overly sarcastic caps lock was warranted due to the idiocy of the joke. |

Did he punch him in the face right in front of the ref? I honestly missed that but I just watched the replays. |

On that faceoff, instead of cross-checking Ovi like Kunitz did, he should've just dropped the gloves and punched him in the face |

Yeah, but when the NHL doesn't clean up this kind of stuff, that will happen. Especially because that play alone could have ended our season. |

Still am not sure what the 1970s and 1980s have to do with the current team who, aside from Rinaldo (who was a healthy scratch last night), does not have a "goon" I'm aware of. Even more unsure of what Hextall and Berube's religious affiliations are relevant to.
And no, most (MOST) Flyers fans are well aware of our past, and they also realize that it will not work in today's NHL and want to embrace a move away from it. - jmatchett383

How about the guy they replaced Rinaldo with during the suspension? White?

And most fans are well aware of the Pens prior to 2005. To make that assumption gathered from blog posts isn't fair. |

He did it in the scrum. Downie retaliated which will get a guy named Downie sent to the box 100 out of 100 times. Hillen reacted by playing dead. |

i just don't think this team is good enough right now to beat the better teams in the league
I agree with Madden's view that no trade will make them better...it has to come from within the guys they have because there's enough there to win but they need more on a consistent basis from everybody
I also agree with his comment about how they do not play with confidence
I won't harp on the shots thing too much but Crosby and Malkin totaled 5 while Ovechkin and Backstrom totalled 11
Wash had 5 power plays versus the Pens 3 but shot totals were even at 33
Your best players need to lead the way in shots on goal in a game like this... |

It would be different if the Penguins had ever employed a player like George Laraque, Eric Goddard, Steve MacIntyre, Aaron Asham, Matthew Barnaby, Jarkko Ruutu, Andre Roy, Lyle Odelein, Steve McKenna, Jay Caufield, Ulf Samuelsson, or Troy Loney, but that's just not the case. |
