Well I was at the game last night, loved the slash by the Great 8; it really got the team and crowd into the game. I was literally sitting right next to 4 guys in business suits, that didn't even clap one single time. It was really awkward, ive never seen anything like it. Saw 3 fights and that's not including Borts getting tossed around again. Burgatory ran out of burgers before the end of the 1st period, same with the smoke house; no pulled pork; I felt like I was in the twilight zone.

Back to the slash, right after the slash Lappy went over to the Caps bench and got into Ovi's face which I liked to see; but we go about revenge in such a strange way. Our guys just attack who ever is out there right after something happens, Lappy should have waited and blindsided Backstrom with a career ending elbow; I feel like that would really send the correct message. I did like the slash though it really wasn't that bad, I do that 6 times a game every single week.

Sutter is getting worse every single game, his time is at an end.

Big difference ... each time we play Washington, the douche takes liberties and one of our pretty significant players gets injured. I have no problem someone running Ovi into the ground based on his MO.

Seems to me Letang wasnt all that injured and playing in the last remaining minutes of the third period....oh thats right he took a ridiculously stupid slashing penalty 12 seconds into a penalty kill.

How do you retaliate when OV won't back up what he did? The previous game against the Ducks he mad a questionable hit on Getzlaf and when Getzlaf wanted a piece of him he skated off then fell down when Getzlaf touched him. There's a reson he was called out by Getzlaf.

Agreed.

Yes. On Ovi. It's not a penalty either, as the world saw with Staal and Sid.

So, as a Penguins fan, the fanbase that despises dirty play and "goon" hockey, you are hoping that a player uses a hockey stick to severely injure the head of a human being?

So you're now condoning a player getting 2-handed in the head?

Does it matter? That was a very dangerous play by Ovi and he knew it. Everyone knows Letang's injury history.

I agree, but when this has been happening all season and our best defenseman gets hurt, the pot might finally boil over.
- znagle

It sucks but it happens to all teams. JT has someone take a run at him pretty much every game along with Boychuck. Everyone wants to smash whoever did it in the face for doing it of course but when youre tied up at one you have to show some restraint. That is where Downie becomes a detriment. Hes done the same routine every time we played you guys this yr. Woth all of this said that play should be reviewed by the league Ovechkin saying he was swatting at the puck adds insult to injury.

Why does it matter when he fought?

Edit: Those first 2 were actually in his second year, not his rookie year. My bad.

- jmatchett383

Like I said earlier, he doesn't own up to anything. He makes excuses after the game and during the game he'll laugh it off then run another of our players, of course getting no penalty because Kunitz and Perron jousted him at the faceoff.

Two were like his rookie year before his reputation. So, he has answered a whopping one time in his career.

And 1 maybe even 2 were against 5'11" mike Richards

Probably because Getzlaf would destroy him in a fight. That's a stupid fight to take. If Getzlaf wants revenge, then just hit him with a check just as hard.

you literally said ....suckerpunched. You want Steve Downie to sucker punch a top tier player is the exact equivalent of Thornton/Orpik. It blows my mind how fast Penguin fan's change their mind about this stuff. Steve downie was the freaking devil last year now he is jesus on skates. Everyone called for Thornton to be banned from the league and now they are calling for sucker punches to other teams top players. The dirty cheap shot sucker punches hits from behind hits to the head need to stop.
- did109

of course we hated downie, he was tough to play against, and hes batsht crazy, but do i want downie to try and teach ovechkin a lesson, which he probably couldnt do even if he wanted, yea I do

part of why this game really pisses me off is that ovi is just plain better than everyone on the penguins. it kills me to say it, but its obvious, no one wants anything to do with him, and he can do whatever he wants on the ice without fear of retribution, way i see it doesnt matter who we play in the playoffs, it isnt going to end well, hell the flyers would beat us if they could even make the playoffs, and thats with scrub ray emery in net

No it doesnt matter you are correct on that one. It was a dangerous play as it unfolded but i still have to disagree with most on here. There was no intent to injure or even make contact with Letang.

Happens to us all the time. Nothing ever happens other than a 4 game suspension if that.

We have seen this happen to our players frequently. There are certain players in this league I root for to get railed and jarred. If they are out two or three months, all the better. A stick to the head - nope, but a nice slash on the back of the knees to deliver a message will do. Hopefully, it would send a message.

I learned early on when I was playing semi-pro that if you really feel a need to fight a guy, don't give him a chance to say no. Drop your gloves and grab him. If it's REALLY that important to make him "answer" then do it. Give him a chance to get his gloves off, and then lay into him no matter what he does.

Funny, I thought Jesse Boulerice, Chris Simon, and Marty McSorely got more than 4 games.

Well dont worry they cant make the playoffs....and i would take freaking Petr Skudra over Ray emery at this point.

You have zero idea about intent to injure. Ovi is one of the most wreckless players in this league and he never suffers any consequences. He knew full well what he was doing.

That's fine. But you're talking about condoning a play that could turn a human being into a vegetable. That's just being a horrible person, to me.

tripping doesnt require intent though, 99% of the time you dont intentionally trip someone, so like I said shouldve been a minor, and the fact that it did lead to an injury albeit nothing severe as far as we know it couldve been a major

Agreed on all of this. But, they missed so many calls and called those same penalties on us. Kunitz hit on Ward, same as the Ovi hit on Kunitz after he refused to fight him. After years of this happening to our star players, they are going to boil over like they always do. Ovi saying that only protects him if the league even considers to stop watching Maple Leafs highlights and review the play.

UMMM ... I didn't say stick to the head. A stick to the back of the knees. Unless someone's brain is there, no one is turning into a vegetable. Not rocket science. I don't mince words and call a spade a spade. I'm all about accountability as well. If someone wants to take liberties on one of my players, there is a point in time said player needs to pay. Ovi's price tag is high.
