Why? Because of his pedigree?

IMO we still have to wait on Trev, Benning, and Willie. I've seen nothing to suggest confidence other than Benning's time with Boston and Willie's time in the Stars organization.

I got to see more than one good draft and one forced big trade (kesler). It's good to be optimistic but I think we need a bit more from these two other than not being terrible.

Clendenning, Pedan, Virtanen, Mcann and Demko. Our prospect pool has improved substantially in 8 months. Just wait, the Pedan and Clendenning trades will turn out to be steals.

Pedan had a giveaway for a Beauty of a goal. He still has a lot to learn

6 goals on 21 shots. Today's loss is on Ericsson.

But yes I agree that pedan isn't ready from the limited times I've seen him.

I'd be thrilled if he was even Shaw 2.0, but suggesting Callahan is overly optimistic. Callahan's a better skater and shooter IMO.

I stand corrected on cassels weight. But shaws numbers in the OHL weren't very good. If were comparing straight up Cassels has put up drastically better numbers in a similar role.

I wonder if the Sedins had anything to do with the Kulikov hit...

Worst position to be in: not good enough to do any damage in the playoffs (if we even make them) and too good to win lottery pick

Not in an ideal position for great picks, but a good scouting department should be able to find something in the first round.

I am torn, would like to see them miss and get some quality and highly rated/ can't miss prospects but acknowledge ownership wants to stay competitive and keep picks and do a slow retool/transition from the Sedins to the youth.

Nothing left for us to do except keep rooting for the Canucks and hope they either out right miss the playoffs or get on a roll at the end of the season and make some noise...

There's 19 teams in the middle of the pack just like us, we're one of 20. Probably five legit Cup contenders and five teams with a realistic shot at the top pick.

It's not a terrible situation to be in, you get to watch some good hockey and maybe a playoff round or two...what's so wrong about that? Canucks just had two solid drafts and I suspect they'll continue to draft well under Benning, it's a slow process but it's better than being the Oilers.

Draft and develop!

I would like to get a big body forward like Wheeler this year (in the draft ).I think next year our team should start to take a hit where we can draft a skilled forwards in the top 10

Detroit is better than we are and they haven't missed the postseason for 20 some years, not to mention their prospect pool is better than ours.

Draft and develop man...draft and develop.

Canucks need to start looking towards the post-Sedin era. At this rate, it will be upon us before we know it.

yes they are, they just have intelligent stable managers who understand they value in drafting and developing while your still competing.

You have Detroit on one end, and the Oilers on the other end. They are two opposites like the Bizzaro worlds . Then there is everyone else.

I think they already are!! That's why you won't see Benning trade the likes of Horvat Virtanen or McCann, they'll need those kids in three years and they know it.

I wish Gillis, that stupid (frank), would have picked Shea Theodore in stead of Shinkaruk a few years back.

I know many here won't want to hear this but I think that it would be hard to find 2 players to fill the Sedin's shoes even if we had the 2nd and 3rd overall again.

Obviously this year there is a lot of hype for the top guys, but do you think that Heatley/Gaborik would of been able to do as much for the nucks as the Sedins have?

what about Spezza/Svitov, Lehtonen/Bouwmeester, Staal/Horton, Malkin/Barker, Ryan/Johnson, Staal/Toews (no doubts there), JVR/Turris, Hedman/Duchene (debatable).

The Sedin's are going to be very hard to replace and likely will take many years of good drafting or some dumb luck to find players of their caliber.
