We have a first line. Vrbata and Burrows can rotate in and out.

A better second line eases pressure on the first, and our 3rd and fourth are good.

Then we need real skill on the back end.

Jebus the only place we have some decent depth is the back end.

Olli Jokinen made his way through the crowd of waiting reporters outside the dressing room of the Toronto Maple Leafs practice facility and shook his head in bewilderment.

"Wow, Toronto," he said.

Jokinen was asked how long he expects to be with the Maple Leafs.

"I don't know," Jokinen said. "Right now I am a Maple Leaf and I'll probably take it day by day."

Sounds like some good first impressions

I assume by "taking it day by day" he means "counting down the days until my contract expires"

How do you go from rebuild to rebuild without ever making the playoffs once with a full schedule?

Some rebuilds take decades longer than others.

I would argue that the only decent depth we have is in bottom 6 forwards. I can buy the argument that we have a 1st line but we only have 1/3 of a 2nd line when healthy.
Our D depth is full of replacement level players, outside of Hamhuis, Tanev, Edler and Bieksa there are no players capable of playing in the top 4. Sbisa, Clendening, Stanton, Corrado, Weber are bottom pairing or press box level players. Maybe in a few years Corrado and Clendening can prove they can play in the top 4 but no guarantees there.

What a poopshow. At least we don't have to deal with that level of ineptitude year after year.

How many teams would Burrows be on the first line?

No need to trade JV.

I'm starting to despise that term. It’s being way over used and it was meaningless in the first place.

you could say the same about our old friend Dale Weise, but that is working for the Habs.

Burrows plays well with the Sedins. So he gets first line time.

Weise is not a first liner. They have no shot of winning a cup with him on the top line

The Canucks are in the 1st year of rebuild mode.
- Marwood

Seems like we are in a denial year and the rebuild will truly start after summer hopefully when the NTC's are moved out. But I'm sure Benning is thinking about it right now.

Well, we've had our drama but I am very confident in Benning and his pedigree. We just have to be patient over the next few years as they continue to draft & develop. At least most of our games have been entertaining.

The Habs live and die with Price. Weise will be back in the bottom 6 but if Price stays healthy they have a legit shot to make the dance. Best goalie in the game by far and best 3rd period team in hockey in 1 goal situations.

easy thing to say, but that fact is he is making a big difference and deserves where he is playing. Same with Burrows through the years. You may not like it, but that hardly matters.

On teams he has good chemistry with the other top line players. The league is full of 1st lines with two legit 1st liners and another who fits well with them. Kunitz, Maroon/DSP/, Lewis/King/, Abdelkader, Schenn/Raffl, Zuccarello, Hertl/Neito/Karlsson, Brouwer, (frank)ing Wiese, etc

It matters exactly as much as you thinking they are first liners. Only difference is I won't be disappointed when they get bounced

Hold on.

You can't label someone a 1st liner or not based on their individual skill. It's called a 'line' for a reason. It's the way the three players work together that makes them a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th line.

Dale is a 1st liner because he works well with the other two players on that line to generate goals which is the responsibility of the 1st line. Burrows is a 1st liner because he compliments the twins to generate goals.
