Hindsight is everything, had Gillis/Nonis hung on to more picks and not made any moves for cup runs they would of been vilified for being too passive and not attempting to improve the club when they had a window.
Nonis mad a great trade in acquiring Luongo for only Bertuzzi, Allen and Auld.
Gillis made some good trades in acquiring Ehrhoff, Higgins, Lappiere and didn't give up anything for Booth even though he was a disappointment, both Samuellson and
The Ballard trade looked good at the time but didn't work out. Pahlsson was a bust but only cost 2 4ths and an ECHLer. Hodgson trade was a wash, although I hated it at the time.
The Roy trade didn't work at all. The Schneider trade was underwhelming and the Luongo trade was brutal.
We will see how Benning does, but he doesn't have the same pressure to win now as the previous two had. I like how Benning operates but time will tell if he can make enough successful moves to be considered better. - belcherbd
Fine but no nuts traded a pile of picks and made the playoffs once in his 4 yrs. |

Yup - people need to get over the Delorme thing. Yes he sucks and yes he still works for the Canucks but he's not in charge. - LeftCoaster
Then maybe Canucks . Com should remove his title of Chief Scout and change Crawfords from Director of Player Personel |

He added some good pieces(Demitra/Sundin/Samuelsson/Torres/Higgins/Hamhuis/Ehrhoff/Malhotra). You have to give him credit for those moves if you're gonna rip him for all of his bad ones. He also made changes the scouting group, making Crawford the chief scout and such.
The Booth and Ballard moves as well as the goalie drama was his biggest downfall. Also failing to recognize the team was starting to decline after the SCF and the core needed a shakeup.
Horvat is looking pretty good now though... - Nucker101
Oh totally I will give credit where credit is due. I was also one of the few who said to give him a chance his last season because of those things. That said his drafting and ridiculous fast decline also his lack of respect from his peers and players speaks volumes. |

Is it fair to criticize his drafting as a complete bust just yet? Guy had low picks due to his teams success and the majority of his picks aren't at an age where most would be NhL ready |

Whatever anyone wants to call it...
No rentals unless it is part of a bigger deal that brings us some combination of youth/picks/potential.
The Clendening trade approach is interesting, trading one prospect for another that is a little older and further along in their development.
Patience is so boring, but necessary. - hillbillydeluxe
I can agree with that approach. |

I consider Gillis a better GM than Nonis. Which is sad because Nonis has been in an assistant GM or GM role for a long time. |

Wait, wait, wait.
Nonis had nothing to do with Luongo becoming a canuck. Keenan approached Nonis about aquiring Bertuzzi and offered Luongo. Nonis put together the most logical package in Bert, a d-man, and a goalie. No brainer.
Very much like Gillis' acquisition of Ehrhoff. Nothing to do with Gillis.
Name onother good Nonis trade/move other than Lu? It's not easy. |
