A team record 21 goals this season for Belleville Bulls defenceman Jordan Subban. Still not signed by the #Canucks.

- hillbillydeluxe

He needs to be signed. He's going to be better than PK.

WHY NOT PEDAN?!?!??!?!
- manvanfan

Because he's still not NHL-ready and a work in progress, both Biega and Seguinetti have outplayed him. Looks like he is progressing though, but I believe he's waiver eligible next season so it's gonna be interesting to see if he's on the team next year.

In my perfect world Higgins will be gone leaving prospects to fight to the death for that position.

I know the Canucks arent good enough to make a run. So I hope any trade they make is for the future and not something right now.

I think Benning is smart enough to know this.

What concerns me. Is we play like garbage against bad teams and then pull off convincing wins against the good ones. What the hell am I watching here!?!?

I cant tell if were decent or garbage..... We sure as hell arent great.

- vancity787

We aren't even close to good enough to make a run. Our consistency levels certainly have shown that this year. We 'appear' to play up/down to the level of most of the teams we are playing. Beat teams like STL CHI BOS and DET but get pounded by Minny Dallas LA and a few others. It really is all over the place this year as we don't know which version of the team we are gonna get on any given night.

It does appear that Benning is sharp though. But with Edler/Tanev possibly out I wouldn't be shocked to see a trade for a DMAN here soon. Nothing in the way of dumping assets but something in the way of some stable help for the backend. If the playoff push is still a priority then we can't roll with what we have on the backend...aint gonna make it.

Is it a bad thing that I know nothing about this prospect?

Until the guy starts bulging the twine more often. 4 mill is generous. I'd be more around 3.35-3.5.
- vancity787

Yeah if he started putting up points we would be paying about 6-8 million a year for him. If he signs 4.75-5 for 5 I'd be super happy.

Yeah, if Tanev was putting up even 30-35 points there's no way you'd get him at 4M-4.5M.

He's a first pairing Defencemen. Almost impossible to get him less then 5 a season.
Niskanen 5.75
Carle 5.5
Brodie 4.65
Bogosian 5.1
Faulk 4.8
Stralman 4.5
Kulikov 4.3

some numbers of some more recent signed D. Not comparing them to Tanev but just a look at what guys got.

Brodin and Tanev are very similar players and I think something close the 25 million over 6 years that Brodin signed for would be very reasonable.

Brodin 168 gms 12G 25A +16 38PIMS and plays top pair 6'1, 194 lbs

Tanev 209 gms 10G 32A +34 28PIMS and plays top pair 6'2, 185 lbs

Both guys are excellent in their own zone and can make a good first pass but lack physicality and high end offensive skills.

Very different in that Garrison is single, Hammer's life outside of hockey with wife, three kids and church dictate he won't be traded…ever.

Haha... god will find him on his new team if he gets traded.

Brodin's 21. Tanev's 25. Brodin's ceiling is way higher than Tanev's.

Niskanen, Carle, Stralman for sure were not RFA's when they signed and Brodie may not of been either. Faulk, Kulikov and Bogosian either have great offensive abilities or are very physical, which generally garners larger salaries than players like Tanev.

Brodin is younger but I'm not so sure his ceiling is that much higher, he has never put up good offensive numbers in any league. Brodin might improve his offensive side a bit but it is rare for guys to go from very little offense in minors/developmental leagues to PP QB's in the Pro's.

He is 6'5, 21 years old and an absolute beast. Great shot as well. I think he will turn out to be a steal for Benning.

Y'all are a day ahead of me, digging into Tanev's market value.

I'm just happy to hear that he's playing tonight after getting conked hard by the goalpost on Saturday night.

Here's today's blog:

There really are lots of possible moves that could help us, but I can't see Benning bringing in much more than a rental on d with the number of dmen we already have on the books and the salary devoted to our forwards. I think more moves may be needed to set up a bigger move.

With the Brandon McMillan pickup, I keep wondering if he wants to dump a regular forward and keep Kenins in the lineup and use McMillan in the lineup too. The team has skated better with Kenins in the lineup and am wondering if he is looking at some forwards as being expendable and wants to go further with more youth/energy in the lineup?
