Ah, I must have missed that.
It is a good article but I thought it was especially interesting today, to contrast against how Torts is now describing his time in Vancouver. No matter how contrite he sounds, he still doesn't seem to have a very clear understanding of how his behaviour comes across to other people. - Carol Schram
The thing that worried me most before Torts began was when he was asked about the style he promoted of blocking shots. He said something along the lines of "I don't have a style to teach, just y'know, block 'em" which did not give me faith that the guy had any insight into actually being able to command authority. |

Was thinking to start the season that the problems for the team would lie in secondary scoring, Defense and Faceoffs.
While the first line and fourth lines have delivered great, after an early bump, the secondary scoring is not enough. I think the middle 6 of the team could use some player for player trades, but I would keep Burrows cause he's so versatile.
Really liked bringing in Clendening on the backend but this Dcore isn't gunna get it done. I think Hamhuis has got to go...he's knocked in three goals already this season but all of them have been on his own net. Sbisa has been a disaster. Stanton and Weber have been good 3rd pairing guys. Bieksa has not hit the net but I'd like his game if he was paired with a safe player. At the end of the day though, Edler and Tanev have played like a second pairing, not a first...we need a dman that can score from the point.
Faceoffs have been terrible and will continue to be a problem. The Goaltending has sucked too.
Glad to see the team punching above their weight though and I have hope for some of the prospects... - Ronning4ever
I was really impressed with Bonino early on. Dont think he is the problem on that line, Simply the duds he's playing with. Sucks for him to live with fact he got traded for real good player. Your right when it comes to secondary scoring. Bonino needs some guys to play with.
Hes a good distributor, just doesnt have anyone to distribute to...... |

You think so? I haven't really noticed him as much as a guy like Matthias (who I like but hasn't finished enough given the chances he's had). I like a lot of the players in terms of their effort - Higgins, Matthias, Richardson, Hansen, etc. But I just don't think they've found that extra level.
That said, it wouldn't matter as much if we had better D and goaltending. Much, much better D... |

Weise is garbage. The Canucks have a plethora of 4th liners. Maybe you should be a Habs fan they are quite multicultural. - Marwood
Bottom line is Weise just isn't built as a player to be successful in the west. East is a different story. We have a few more 4th liners that would most likely be better on Eastern clubs. But in the west Weise would have been a career 4th liner (which he really is anyways) and would have struggled for TOI with most coaches out here. It's nice to see him having some success out in MTL but there could be a hard dose of reality for him soon as well.
He was totally useless for us as a player.

Weise is 26 and just coming into his prime. He was a beast in the playoffs. He's got a low ceiling, but I loved the way he played on our fourth line and I would have kept him. |

Here is to hoping Vrbata will still be on the second line when Bonino returns.
I just cringe every time I see Higgins as 2nd line winger. Instantly it becomes the 3rd line.
Was expecting a late Friday afternoon trade.... |

Any chance you'd trade 1 of your 4 top 3 goalies in the league?
Don't think we can afford the asking price of 1st, Bjugstad and Huderdeau but we might be able to sort out you guys not having to wake up early on a Saturday to go to the game when the Leafs roll in to town. I know that has caused some concern in previous years. |

If Benning is smart then he won't move Eddie Lack to anywhere else. Markstrom might go bye bye - BeatStriker
If that is the case I hope Benning is not smart and trades Lack. I like Lack but having played in Semi Pro I really hate guys that come across as "Don't give a (frank) type" I would rather have somebody like Markstrom that has the fire and wants to prove it to everyone then have someone like Lack that is content at being the bench warmer.
I don't question the skills of Lack but I do question his desire to uproot Miller. Schnieder was also the joking buddy in the locker room and was always happy go lucky, but when it came to playing he wanted more. He wanted more starts more playing time, tougher competition and was pissed everytime he lost.
I have a huge issue with professional players with beer league attitude when it comes to competition. You are paid to do something, show some (frank)ing emotion and desire. Break a stick or fight someone. But so something. This whole thing about laughing off a bad game is only amateurs.

I disagree whole-heartedly, especially in a goalie, you want someone emotionally stable and with the mental toughness to shrug or laugh things off like a bad goal or bad game/loss. We've had our fill of emotional goalies who get upset (see Roberto Luongo) and how that never works out. |

Yeah, he'd be good with Kesler....Oh wait.
Got rid of the shooter, now we have a passer with no one to shoot. |

I did not say anything about mental toughness. I said I want a goalie who shows emotion that he gives a poop. And the Loungo that you speak off has 373 career wins with 66 Shutouts and .919 SV%. Most of his bad numbers came from his Florida days.
And yes I will take someone with Loungo's temperament anyday over Lack's lack of emotion. When Lou lost his job he got pissed and wanted to be traded. Too bad we had dumbass Gillis that for some reason wanted to hold on to the issue and effectively drove Lous value through the floor.
And before you mention that his contract was untradeable, recall that the issue with Lou started before the new CBA and should have been dealt with before the league went into a lockout.

I still like Lack though. He's currently the most popular backup goalie in the NHL and he's the reason why we are able to sell tickets. He may laugh it off on a bad goal after a game but if you see his face in game, he looks really frustrated every time he lets an easy goal in. I would probably trade Markstrom for round picks. Plus Lack only laughs it off if he wins the game, but when he loses, he stays quiet |

Does anyone know how this actually works in terms of goalie development? I don't so I have no idea what the big deal is. Everyone is talking like we have to trade goalies, but I don't know why Markstrom can't sit in the AHL for another 2 years (or just go play in Sweden for one of them)...Lack hasn't exactly been standing on his head in Vancouver...and goalies do get injured so I don't understand why we can't just wait until Miller's contract is done. |

Good guys never finish first. It is the Thomas, Roys, broduers that win the cup not lacks of the league.
