Reading the comments on that page, I hate reading this,
"Utica is gearing up for a Calder Cup run and I doubt they’d want to lose Markstrom until the end of the year."
Don't really care about Calder Cup runs if it is holding the big club back from making a move that helps the team. It would be nice if the Comets won a Calder cup, but that should just be a fringe benefit of developing players for the Canucks. The focus has to be what is best for the big club whether it is now or down the road.
Just trade a goalie. - hillbillydeluxe
How is it holding back the big club?
I think it's great for the kids to get some playoff experience and team building. |

If there is an offer there and it would mean moving a goalie to bring in a forward, but the team holds back because they want Utica to be in the Calder cup race.... |

I also don't see why a goalie trade couldn't just happen at the draft |

It could.
I'm not too patient with moving a goalie. Offseason may be the best time, team's evaluating what they saw the previous season, seeing what they have in their system and whether they want to go with what they have or make a trade or sign a free agent to address their needs.
But if there is a move before or at the tdl that makes sense, I hope Benning will be all over it. Damn fickle goalie market. |

Another believer in getting a top 6 forward for an ahl goalie. |

We don't have a veteran backup and young unproven backups are not traded for playoff insurance. I don't think either goalie will have a huge market at tdl. The only way I see either Lack or Markstrom gets moved is as part of a package where Nucks are buyers. |

Do you really think Benning is holding back on a trade because of the Calder Cup race? Of course he isn't. Not trading Markstrom because a team is offering a 3rd round pick (or worse) has nothing to do with Utica. They still control his rights at the end of the season so they won't dump him for the sake of making a trade.

i doubt the return will be much different now than it will be after the season. Might as well keep him for a long calder cup race so we can give our young players some good playoff experience. |

I wouldn't think so either, I was just commenting on a comment at the bottom of the Canucks Misconduct page, "Utica is gearing up for a Calder Cup run and I doubt they’d want to lose Markstrom until the end of the year."
I wouldn't be surprised if they had already been offered a 3rd for Lack or Markstrom and turned it down.
