I've watched Kane a lot and am not a fan at all. Yes, he can skate hard and bang players around , and has some great speed. However he is very very selfish with the puck and will just shoot it on net 80% of the time with shots that have little chance of accomplishing anything. Additionally he has very poor on-ice vison. Its rare that you will ever see him make a really good pass to someone in the open. He also takes a lot of really stupid penalties. Add that to his level of immaturity and he is no bargain. Lets see how quickly he starts protesting being in Buffalo.
Thank you Buffalo for taking him off our hands . Thank you Thank you !
BTW...for those in the know on Bogo. Also a bit of a party animal from his Atlanta days. Him and Kane were not good influences on young guys like Trouba . A good D-man but takes a lot of dumb penalties as well. |

This really comes down to Myers for Bogosian as a wash. Both first rounders in 2008. Both rushed at the time. (sounds a lot like Luke Schenn).
Now, the Kane part of this deal. Personally, I wouldn't give you a good role of fresh tape to bring him into the locker room. On the other hand, the Sabers are getting something for Stafford and getting rid of some prospects who may not have been as high on their radar.
It is nice that it is an actual hockey trade, but still...Winnipeg got rich on this one. - wbon22
I agree with you but Winnipeg got potentially rich as Armia and Lemieux are unproven and Stafford is a rental player who Buffalo has tried to trade and had no takers for the last 2 years. Did Buffalo give up too much yes but I think to get it done now they had no choice. GMTM wanted Kane and if this went to the summer more teams could jockey their cap space to fit Kane and I think the price to do business would have been higher. Winnipeg wants to make the playoffs this year and Stafford could help and he needed a change. Basically Kane cost the Sabres 3 prospects and half of Staffords salary the rest of the year. |

That's entirely your opinion, which you are entitled to but you shouldn't act as if that is a fact. Tampa needs to keep Stamkos, winning will help that and adding Kessel will help them win. - Lipchitz
Except adding Kessel won't help them win. It'll make it harder. Adding that contract will make it near impossible to keep the core together not to mention the assets needed to acquire him. And they have the top scoring team in the league already they need a d man or two not a high priced winger. It would sink the team.

Why are you still talking about Kessel to Tampa. I won't happen. Kessel will be moved to the west. |

Kessel doesn't have a bad contract, that misconception needs to end. The bolts can add him this year when they need to make a playoff run. Pretty simple in my opinion. |

No, the fact is adding Kessel would create problems down the road for re-signing guys like Stamkos and Hedman. The forward depth I speak of is not an opinion, that is also a fact. I'm not saying anything negative towards Kessel, merely pointing out that the cost to acquire him when he isn't filling a need position makes no sense today or for the future |

If the Leafs are going with a long term rebuild he may get moved in the East. Only an issue IMO if they are trying to win in the next season or two. |

It's not a bad contract, however it is a bad contract for Tampa. His cap hit would be prohibitive to re-signing Stamkos and Hedman. Plus you add in the cost to acquire him and the entire idea of Kessel to Tampa makes no sense at all

Hi Eklund,
I am sort of disappointed that you did not let us know about this deal before it went down? The other day you told us Kane was not getting moved until the draft and that Myers was heading to Colorado or LA. Just wondering how this happens? Do you speak with the sources who have you bad info?
I'm trying to become an insider myself so I am looking for tips. I already have a lot of friends who are hockey players. |

Don't worry Meyers takes his share of stupid penalties and wait till you see small players like Gallagher, Desharnies muscle him off the puck...6'8 220 it's pitiful. When behind the net in his own end watch how many times Myers ends up on his back on the ice. He will bring some offense to the team for sure. Both Myers and BOGO needed changes and got it. Buffalo over paid a little by a prospect but GMTM wanted to get it done now so it didn't become a bidding war this summer and the price to do business would have gone up. Armia is talented but gets injured often as I think might be the case with Kane but Kane has proved he can put the puck in the net. To me Lemieux is the wild card in this trade and hated seeing him included. |

A minor issue and very easily hurdled with proper planning. Hedman is a UFA the year after Stamkos and you can resign Stamkos and still fit Kessel under the cap very easily. Additionally they can move Kessel in a couple years if you have to open cap space. He's 27yo no reason to expect a decline any time in the next few seasons. |
