Tim Murray (Sabres GM) was on a couple weeks back and said This draft falls off after the 15th or so pick.
I will trust him (NO offense) - ImThatGuy
What was his context? Again, no debating there is high quality star talent in the top 15. But falling further down after the top 15 doesn't mean it's weak after, just means the talent up top is star quality. The reality is, compared to other years this is a deep draft. In other years there are 1st round caliber guys who this year you can get in the 2nd if not later. Only time will tell if the talent translates into a deep draft for NHL talent but that is true for every draft

Sure but it was comical.
I was just waiting for Myers to get moved to post on it. Especially if what Buffalo got back wasn't deemed an "overpayment" because he wasnt being shopped or because he was the cornerstone of the rebuild..etc etc. |

Not surprised to see Brendan Lemieux involved in Kane/Myers blockbuster. His agent (Claude) told the Sabres Brendan wasn't signing in BUF. - ImThatGuy
I say it will bite you guys in the ass:
Bogo = Myers
Kane = Armia, Lemieux and late 1st
Winnipeg instantly becomes better by not having Kane around (bad attitude and out for season) and they add quality prospects. Murray and the Sabres had nothing to gain in rushing, they lost big on this one.
Did Myers ask for a trade ? |

A statistically terrible defenseman at both ends of the ice (with a terrible contract) that plays like he is 5'8", 2 unproven none bluechip prospects and a late first round draft pick.
I would say that's a very underwhelming return. |

Funny how Sabre fans were saying Snow was stupid for keeping last years pick because this draft is so stocked that even a late first rounder/early second rounder is immensly better than a top 5 last season. I heard this multiple times from many posters. |

and Stafford...for this year...which is kind of important.
Jets did pretty well considering they were kind of under the gun. But Buffalo will be happy with what Bogo and Kane bring. Provided they stay healthy. |

What am I assuming?
The scenarios I pointed out are a reality in the next few years. Again, Kessel plays a position that is NOT a need for Tampa and given his salary and the cost to acquire him you have yet to make any sound point as to why it makes sense for Tampa to get him.
Franson is a possibility for a deal to Tampa b/c that does fill a short-term need. Any future he would have here would be determined by how he would play here. By no means does acquiring Franson AND Kessel make sense however b/c again we would have to pay a significant price for Kessel and he doesn't fill a need not to mention the aformentioned salary cap implications in the next few years - uf1910
You are assuming that everything stays the same when change is one of the few constants in our world. I agree they are not interested in taking on bad or hindering contracts but they are definitely looking at adding talent and winning now to retain Stamkos. When you say Kessel doesn't fill a need just go ahead and give your head a shake, simply not true.
Again you have no idea what it would cost to acquire Franson and Kessel, you are assuming that the price is too high. If the value didn't make sense they just wont make the deal as Stevie Y is a shrewd hockey man but they should be interested in the players. And lastly the salary cap implications are being vastly overstated it would be a very manageable situation with years to figure it out. |

If Myers were on the Leafs - He would be known as a no better than 3rd pairing bust with a ridiculous untradeable contract.
Funny how that works. |

Incredible how this stuff leaks out on twitter immediately after a player gets traded. Seems like a PR move everytime I see it. |

Bogo is a big horse out there. But pretty injury prone and there were rumors flying around the Peg about his attitude away from the rink.
But....Buffalo fans will love him. Good player. Hits like a truck. |

Well, not only his fault...but he is definitely part of it!
I read a few very good articles a while back about Myers. The guy just plain sucks at both ends of the ice. Jets will find this out very quickly. |

Anyone who is on the leafs is considered untradable and underachieving, thats just the life of Leafs Fan bc of the Media attention the players get. If they arent winning the Hart, Norris, Vezina they are bums |

Now would be the time to go to the Sabres thread and see how the
"Will get the huge overpayment for Myers" crowd is reacting.
It should be priceless. - StargateSG1
They are the same group that didn't want this re-build...the Chara comparison is always used because Myers is 6'8 and that's about as far as those two can be compared. Myers may get better but not near enough for the Sabres to have to keep him. When Murray first took over the GM job he omitted Myers name when asked his D of the future, that's when you could see the writing on the wall he would be moved. Bogo will bring a physical presence to Buffalo's D, something it lacks and he will be given a bigger work load. Honestly if you, me or other fans know a players true worth we wouldn't be writing on these boards and would be working in the NHL. Every fan thinks his teams players are worth more then they are.
As far as this trade goes on paper Winnipeg won BUT rumor has it Lemieux's agent had told the Sabres Lemieux would not be signing with the team so if true then they lost nothing there...Armia, Lemieux and the 1st rounder are prospects and have proved nothing yet so till then you can't determine a winner or loser. In Buffalo's favor is Kanes a proven player...maybe thrown into the fire to early in his career and IF the Sabres get his head going in the right direction may end up with the player Kane was thought to be. Sequin is a prime example.
Time will tell in about 2-3 years and hopefully both team made the right move here |

I dont mind Bogo but all the Drug rumours and injury prone seasons he has had, his time was running out. Him and Myers have the same output offensively but Bogo is playing in a much deeper established Top 4. I think Myers is going to be great on the 2nd pairing. |
