According to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger, the first-round pick will be the lowest of the three that Buffalo currently owns.
Did they really give up their own 1st round lottery pick?

Lowest as in the latest pick in the first round. Closest to 30 out of NYI/STL. - eichiefs9
OK, that makes more sense.
For a second there I though lowest as in math.

Lowest... closest to 30th. - Jeffmt
Exactly. A High pick is a good one (i.e. First). Low is not (i.e. 30). |

That is the thing people judge trades in the present when a lot of trades have future implications. Does Kane Smarten up? Does Myers live up to the 1st round pick he was? Do any of the prospects pan out? There are too many questions to out right say which team is better off with the trade. Even so just because one is better off, doesn't mean the other isnt as well. Some trades help both teams - xShoot4WarAmpsx

Still bad in a deep draft but yeah not as bad. - J-P
this draft is very top heavy and then thins out rather quickly. Top 15 picks are good. the NYI and STL picks are expected to fall oustisde that range. |

Another leaf fan trade, they are getting more laughable by the day. Tampa is in first and they are going to trade their best defenceman and a future 40 goal scorer and take garbage clarksons contract all just for morgan reily who is slightly better than average? Yeah yzerman was just tricking everyone making good move after good move only to pull this bone header off. - Dcoms
First off, I don't think he was serious - that's why he said "That's how much I don't want to trade Rielly". Meaning it would take a major overpayment for him to move Rielly.
Second, why is Drouin a "future 40 goal scorer" while Rielly is "slighty better than average". Do you even have a clue what you are talking about? Have you even seen Rielly play? Do you know they are 1yr apart in age and have almost the same amount of points?! Your Leaf-hatred biased is turning your brain to mush! |

Not surprised to see Brendan Lemieux involved in Kane/Myers blockbuster. His agent (Claude) told the Sabres Brendan wasn't signing in BUF. |

I can't see Yzerman trading Drouin either....just as I can't see Leafs trading Rielly.
This is just another Ek madeup trade rumor. |

We will see.
Armia and Lemieux have proven nothing. that 1st is years away from the NHL.
Myers is a tough piece to give up I really liked him.
Kane is a damn good winger. Former top 5 pick. His goals/60 Min are comparable to Malkin and Stall.
he is going to be paired with a Franchise Center (McEichel)
Bogosian fits in with an already young defense. |

You are assuming so much it's astounding. Here is an idea take Cody Franson as well, RHD and one of the top scorers in the league. Dump some salary on TO and make it work, hell for the right deal the Leafs would even retain some cap to help TB out. - Lipchitz
What am I assuming?
The scenarios I pointed out are a reality in the next few years. Again, Kessel plays a position that is NOT a need for Tampa and given his salary and the cost to acquire him you have yet to make any sound point as to why it makes sense for Tampa to get him.
Franson is a possibility for a deal to Tampa b/c that does fill a short-term need. Any future he would have here would be determined by how he would play here. By no means does acquiring Franson AND Kessel make sense however b/c again we would have to pay a significant price for Kessel and he doesn't fill a need not to mention the aformentioned salary cap implications in the next few years

Can't wait for all the Myer fans on the Buffalo site to sober up and tell me how this was such and over payment cause they weren't shopping him. Must have had 300 posts telling me a 24 year old 30 goal scorer, a first, and good young roster player and mid-level prospect had Murray slamming the phone down.
Now you send a 1st, Myers and a rental over for a prospect, a locker room cancer and a zach (under achiever but a good player) and that's a good deal for Murray. Ha Ha |

What???? No man, this draft is deep into the 3rd round +. It is a top heavy draft only b/c of the star power at the top. But this draft far from thins out after the top 15

Tim Murray (Sabres GM) was on a couple weeks back and said This draft falls off after the 15th or so pick.
I will trust him (NO offense) |

Contrary to a lot of the chatter on here - I think Sabres wins this deal.
They got the 2 best players in the deal. The draft pick they gave up will be a late first rounder. Neither Armia and Lemieux are bluechips - they may never pan out to be anything much in the NHL.
If the Sabres can get Kane in check, they hands down won this trade big time. |

Yup, which inevitably means there will be good talent that either slips into the 3rd or lower plus the simple trickle down with all of the talent up top there will be plenty of lesser known gems who fall even further.
