Which is more unattractive?
Phone rings. "Hello?"
"Hey, it's JR. I wanted to pick up that discussion we were having about Bennett."
"Oh, yeah... isn't he out again? What's the deal?"
"He's banged up. (JR lets out a chair-rattling fart). He's spent so much time away from the team that we forgot what color his hair is. Hello?!"
Or:
"Hey, it's JR. I wanted to pick up that discussion we were having about Bennett."
"Oh, yeah... isn't he out again? What's the deal?"
"You know, it's a thing with him and the coach. Johnston wants to get the right mix in depending on the opponent. (JR swirls the last of the cheap hooch in his coffee mug, then pours it down his throat). Coach thinks he's too soft to have played on the Western Canada swing. Hello?!" - Johnny Wrath

Had to look it up, Barkley is always entertaining! But yeah X2 with him on that. Just read Money Ball, hey we made a solid team out of a bunch of has beens, had a good run, but are so boring to watch the owners must close off the upper deck so we don't get blacked out in playoff games! How have the A's been since? - sammy87
Couldn't agree more on the Moneyball A's. Everyone points to them as the poster child yet they never came close to winning anything. Never even won a playoff series.
I understand why the A's do it with their budget situation an all. Just stop telling me that's the way to make a championship club. |

That was never accurate. Pittsburgh should have gotten in on that LTIR cap relief and then flipped Kane at the NHL Draft. Oh well.
Just exactly how many games in Buffalo going to lose this season? |

If Jagr wants to go somewhere, I doubt they'll be looking to gouge the team- even one in their own division. I just don't view him as a major upgrade unless it is part of a series of moves to get Sutter out which is a major impediment to making the Pens better. |

Baseball is a sport that should encourage steroids. I loved it when Sossa and Bonds tried to blast one into the Ohio.
The A's best years were with the bash brothers. They can't sell out playoff games now. |

Players can still be traded on IR. I believe the only difference is that the player and teams involved have to acknowledge that Kane can't pass a physical at the time of the deal. |

It's not really the way to make a Championship club. It's more the way to make a small market team competitive and have a chance. And other teams have since adopted the same practices, so Oakland now has competition for the same guys they would be going after. |

It was phrased in a previous blog implying such... I guess now it was just implying that no one trades for IR players.
Of course...

I've always thought this team can't win the Cup with the leadership in the room. I've also thought that acquiring Jags was a poor move. Now I'm starting to think he might be the only player that can walk into that room and change its dynamic. |

You can't really go to the games in California unless you've got an armed escort past the gangsters straight into your luxury box. The stadiums are heavily territorialized; it's the gathering place for the lowest, meanest people. Going there as a general ticket holder to try to enjoy a ballgame is not a shot that's on the board. |

Ten years in and Crosby Malkin Letang aren't good leaders? I call that a bull crap excuse. Its not a strong depth team and we have failed to acknowledge that 4th lines still have to generate chances (even if their offensive ineptitude stops them from producing).
Make another move, put Bennett in the lineup, and get rid of Sill |

What a great, great trade by Buffalo.
Tim Murray is getting work done there. - rival22
Yes, the acquisition of Bogosian was huge. Getting rid of Stafford was even bigger.

Jagr is not coming here unless
1) Kunitz gets moved
or
2) Crosby allows the coach to pick his RW and
3) Malkin and Crosby get separated on the power play
or
4) Jagr accepts a role as a regular 3rd liner (who might get some 1st/2nd line minutes) and accepts not being on the top power play
So...no...Jagr is not coming here... |

That's def true. CA is sketchy, I hate going there for work. Aside from the touristy areas, Wine Country, Natl Parks, I always felt it was a dump. |

Jesus. That's at least double the value for JJ.
Does anyone think JJ walking through that door is going to save this season? - Johnny Wrath
Without a shadow of a doubt.
He is the exact style of player that would flourish with Geno, and he solves our power play problem; he is a PP genius.

It's been discussed numerous times before. No! They are not good leaders. They fold when things get tough. They need an experienced, strong voice in the room to make them perform to their level.

It's always about making another move...isn't it?
They have made lots of moves since last year...lots of changes...so making a move might not really be the answer...you know?
Maybe the source of the 'same problems' isn't the 3rd and 4th line depth |

It's the kind of deal where you're there with your kid pointing out a player on the field when a guy six rows up yells: "My girl says you were lookin at her. You got a problem?!". His girl is invariably dressed like Sindel.
California is a very diverse State. There are plenty of places that wouldn't feel out of place in the third world, but there is much between that and Pier 39. |
